When coming to college, you have the opportunity to rush and become greek. Different people have different opinions on becoming greek. Some people pop out of the womb and are ready to rush meanwhile some people just join to see what its like. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; but, the issue comes around when people try to degrade greek life and mock us.
Yes, I "pay for my friends" and I absolutely love it.
1. Connections and Networking
The connections you can make through greek life are such a perk of greek life. There are hundreds of people in most sororities that all know people who know people. Maybe they know people who can get you that internship. Maybe they know people at the employer you want to work for. You never know.
2. You meet some of your best friends
I do not know what I would do without my besties. I do have friends outside of my affiliation, and I love them just as much. Being in a sorority does require a good amount of time; therefore, you will probably end up spending more time with your friends in the sorority.
3. Good House Food
The food is SO GOOD. Going to eat lunch and dinner with your friends is such a plus. If you are a picky eater this could be a negative because everybody is going to eat the same thing!
4. Fun Activities
Sororities throw fun events for their chapter and it is so fun! Whether it is a swap, date party, painting with your sisters, or going roller skating it is all fun!
5. Philanthropic Activities
Every sorority has their own philanthropy that they host events to raise money for. Helping others is a core value in most sororities that do good in this world.
6. The Snacks
THE SNACK BAR IS GREAT. Have 5 hours of classes after lunch? grab you a Snickers bar to hold you over. Chocolate always makes a day better.
So yes I do pay for my friends and it is totally worth it. If you are on edge about joining a sorority, maybe just try it! If it is not for you, you can always drop. If you know for a fact you do not want to be in greek life, then do not do it and stop stereotyping us.
