If you've been lucky enough to grow up alongside the comfort of your dog, then you understand how much they can mean to you, and that you're very fortunate. Those who haven't grown up with a dog or dogs just don't understand.
To My Four-Legged Friend,
Since the day I met you I completely fell in love with you. Since that day you have been everything from my best friend, soul mate, "relationship goals" and much, much more. Having my family adopt you was one of the best things we've ever decided to do. Having you in my life has created one of the most amazing, and strongest bonds I have ever formed.
Growing up with you alongside me every step of the way has taught me so much. You were my constant. Friends come and go, but you never left. You are always there to lick away my tears or curl up next to me when I thought my whole world was crashing down. You comfort me when I am sick, and sit with me and let me hold you until I calm down. You have been there, every moment I needed you, giving endless love.
You are my protector. You look out for me, you bark away all the strangers that come to the door, even if they are our friends. You wrestle away your toys from everyone so that we can play, you sit by my side whenever I'm on the couch so no one else can. You even bark, and jump up on your two back legs at anyone who tries to hug me.
You've taught me responsibility, to take care of the ones you cherish before you think about yourself. You have taught me to protect the heart of the people you love. You are always the first one to run over when I fall on my a** (literally though). Having you in my life has shown me and continues to show me what the true meaning of selflessness.
I can't think of a stronger friendship than the one we have, which is so amazing due to the fact we've never actually held a conversation (even though we do have our own secret language). I can't think of a time you couldn't instantly make me smile, or feel better.
Thank you for making me feel extra special everyday. Whether it's greeting me with kisses when I come home, or waking me up because you're ready to start the day with me. Even when I come home smelling like another dog, you forgive me, or when we have to kennel you when we go on vacation, you never hold grudges. You're so understanding, and I hope you know every dog I do see when I'm not with you, will never compare.
I hope you understand, when I leave, I promise I will come back. I could never leave you. The memories we have keep me going when we're separated and its not easy being away from you. I hope that I am, and always will be worthy of your devotion, because I know you have been faithful and true to me your entire life. My love for you is infinite.
I couldn't have imagined any other four legged friend by my side for all these years. You have left a paw print on my heart, our bond can never be broken.
