To The College Kids Embarrassed To Have Their Parents Help Move Them In, Be Grateful

To the students who will have their parents on move-in day,

Your parents will want to take loads of pictures. They will want to meet everyone on your floor and your roommates. They will want to unpack all of your clothes and clean your room. They will dread leaving you behind. This may be a new chapter for you, but this is a new chapter for them as well.

You will want them out. You will want to do everything yourself and will get annoyed when they touch all of your things. Cherish this. Cherish them helping you.

Your parents will act crazy - it is normal. They will be running around like crazy and asking you loads of questions, it is OK. Not only are you moving away from them, but they also will not see you every day. Cherish it.

Do not complain about your parents being there to your friends, group chat, or roommates. Do not take this moment for granted.

Take all of the pictures, take all of the help, take all of the memories, take whatever you can get out of them helping you.

They will want to take you out for lunch and dinner, let them. The worst thing you could do is lose the chance to make memories.

They will want to make your bed, let them. Watch them smile as they do it.

They will want to take you out shopping one last time together, do it. Go. Go out and make memories with them.

They will want to spend all the time they can with you, let them.

They will want to cry when they say goodbye, let them. Tell them you will be OK. Make them proud.

I am jealous. This will be my second first day of college without my Dad, without my parents helping me move in. I am jealous of all the memories that you will be making that I will not. However, I will be happy for you. I will watch as your parents get so excited, so happy, for you.

I will be more than happy to act crazy with your parents. I will be more than happy to introduce myself when they come knocking on my door. I will be more than happy.

I will want nothing more than for you to make the memories I can not.

Do not let anyone take this moment from you, it is yours and only yours.

Do not let other students tell you that your parents helping is stupid. It is not. There are students who look at you and your family and smile because they would do anything in the world to make those kinds of memories.

My dad and mom may not physically be by my side during move-in, but I know if they could, they would.

Sincerely,

A girl who wishes she had her parents there to help.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
