Papa taught me how to fly and wiped my tears when I cried. Not a day goes by where you are not on my mind.
Papa is a German word for Dad, but in America, it is a slang term for the word “grandpa”. My Papa was not only my grandfather, but he was my best friend. Whatever he was doing, I was right there with him.
Going on without you isn’t getting any easier. In fact, I think it’s getting harder. The first four years of my life were the best years of my life because of you. Im thankful for the countless memories we made together. From just driving around in your Monte Carlo listening to Alan Jackson to going to the Country Expo every year. I miss the little things like being chased through the house, watching Andy Griffith, and you and Granny swinging me up over curbs.
I constantly find myself thinking about whether I’m making you proud or not. Let me tell you, I’m trying my best. 2017 was one of the hardest years because there were so many things happening in my life that I wanted you to see. Senior prom, graduation, first decent job, and beginning my education at Ball State University. At graduation, I had pictures of you and Papa Irvin in my cap so I could have you guys with me.
There are so many things I want to talk to you about. Sometimes I wish I could tell you about school, work, boys, and just my every day life. The time spent with you was my most favorite time of all.
I am not only thankful to have you as my Papa, but my best friend too. I will forever cherish the moments that were spent with you.
