So you are interested in Panhellenic recruitment. You're a freshman, upperclassmen or transfer student, and you want to join a sorority. You've gone to the registration meeting (or maybe you haven't). If you've registered, you've gotten assigned and met with your Gamma Chi group. If you haven't registered, you might want to do it sooner rather than later, so you don't miss out on these Gamma Chi meetings. There are only a few to be had, so don't delay if you're even remotely interested!
Other than the Gamma Chi meetings, there have been the info session, the registration meeting, Philanthropy with Panhellenic, and now, looming on the horizon: Panhellenic Preview Day, or PPD, on Nov.15.
There is just one problem: You're not really sure what PPD is or what you should be doing beforehand. So, here are some frequently asked questions and answers, so you can get all the information you need before Nov. 15!
What is PPD?
PPD is a practice recruitment round, meaning you tour through all of the Panhellenic houses to see what they're about.
Who participates in PPD?
ALL Potential New Members (PNMs) who have registered and paid for Panhellenic Recruitment (link on Greek Life website). This is a mandatory event, so make sure you are there and at every single round throughout the day!
What goes on during the day? What do we do?
PPD is an all-day event (the exact logistics won't be released until after the registration deadline, Nov. 6). In the beginning, you'll meet on Commons with your Gamma Chi group (if you're a freshman), they'll distribute t-shirts (t-shirts Panhellenic gives you, bought with your registration fee). Note: the shirts are white and unisex. Prepare accordingly.
Then, you'll walk with your Gamma Chi group to Greek row and you'll go to each house (all 10 of them) with your group. Your Gamma Chi will lead you to each house, so you don't have to worry about knowing where to be and when. During each "round" (one round = 10 minutes in a given house), you'll talk with active sorority women and get to know more about their chapter.
After you go through all 10 houses, you're done! That's it! Go back to Commons (or your dorm, if you're not a freshman), and think about your experiences.
What's the point of PPD?
The point of PPD is to give you an idea of what formal recruitment will look like, and to practice having quality conversations so you're more prepared to really understand the character of each house during formal recruitment. Also, it should calm you down, because PPD is meant to alleviate your fears and be casual.
What's the mood of PPD?
Like I said, casual. Relaxed, chill, friendly -- you're just there to talk casually with people. It's not an interview, they're not writing down everything you say. And just FYI: if you're nervous, the active sorority women are nervous, too! It's a two-way street, so just remember that.
What should I do to prepare for PPD?
Really? Nothing. Just relax, maybe read through each chapter's bio (see PNM Newsletters), and chill. If you're stressing out about PPD, you're doing something wrong there. Recruitment's not meant to be stressful - your classes are for that!
So there's pretty much the main highlights of what you need to know before PPD! It's one of the most fun days of recruitment, so get excited (and not stressed)!
