I want to do something big. Like, really big. I want to do something so huge and so positive for the world that I become something more that what I was. I want to be recalled and talked about and revered. I want to make such a big impact that our descendants look back on our world today and say "how could people live like that?" I want to make an immediate impact too; I want to enlighten people about the truly big issues facing the world today.
I think all people should try and make the world a better place for future generations. When we make the world a better place for those later down the line in the course of the world, it makes our lives more impactful in a positive way than it would be normally.
I think a big issue is treating the environment better and trying to get it back to natural levels. Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has been pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We have increased carbon levels by a such a big margin (data that you can find here) that it will take a serious effort from us now to make a better future later. Also, there need to be better practices for overall pollution reduction. Places such as The White Roof Project are making efforts to reduce the output of carbon in the atmosphere by painting roofs of houses and businesses white in order to save money on energy costs, and reducing the need for heating and air.
I think it is also important to have compassion for one another. That is what makes issues truly hit home at some points. It's what makes something happening to somebody on the other side of the planet seem relevant to you. Compassion is the driving force of what makes people do service and try to make life better for those around them. I believe that if there were more people who were driven by compassion and not greed or their own self-interests, there would be much less strife and inequality in the world.
Humanity needs to make a big change if we want to survive as a species. We're destroying the Earth and we're making it harder and harder for those at the margins to survive, and it will make life for those alive later than us a living nightmare if we continue on current trends.
In the grand order of the universe, we are all specks. Our lives go by in an instant as far as the universe is concerned. But it is what we do with our instant of life. It's how we treat others, how we treat ourselves, and how we treat the Earth. One day we will be gone, but right now, our generation can make the changes we need to make in order to save to world for a later generation.
