You May Write Articles To Influence People, But I Write To Process My Thoughts

By giving myself a mission to write for myself, I added a much-needed sense of certainty and purpose to my life.

After 36 published articles and a writing every week for almost a year, I am still often asked by my friends and family why I decided to start writing in the first place. What pushed me to share my ideas on social media and become dedicated to a platform like Odyssey, a website that provides college students with the freedom to voice their opinions with no significant restraints?

My initial response to this question is usually short and vague. I started writing regularly because I wanted to try out something new, because I wanted to join a new organization on campus, because why not? When I first began writing, I was neither sure what to expect, nor did I anticipate people to actually take the time and read what I had to say.

While most people usually think writers publish their work and continue to write so that they can influence the world around them, I decided to start writing for myself. I wrote articles while waiting for lectures to begin and when I wanted to procrastinate on studying for exams. I wrote articles when I needed to clear my head but had no one to turn to and at times, when talking was too difficult. Writing helped me process my own thoughts and maintain my composure at a time when it seemed like life had lost its stability.

By giving myself a mission to write for myself, I added a much-needed sense of certainty and purpose to my life. As I continued to write, I became more confident in my own abilities and opinions. I began to realize that while I had only intended to write for my own happiness and personal fulfillment, I was also able to make an impact on people who I had never met before. I could share my own experiences in the hopes that they would be able to relate to and learn from my triumphs and miseries.

Although not everyone wants to be a writer, I believe that it is important for every individual to find something that they truly love doing — a hobby that gives them personal satisfaction and helps them ameliorate themselves.

If someone had told me a year ago that I would be publishing my own content and expressing my beliefs on the internet for the entire world to read, I would have never believed them. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding and I am immensely grateful for what I've gained from it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
