Congratulations on your acceptance to Oklahoma State University! I want to personally welcome you to Oklahoma State University and the Cowboy family, from one transfer student to another. You have demonstrated great achievements thus far, and you will continue to do even more great things in the future.

Here are some things you should know now that you'll be surrounded by America's Brightest Orange!

What you should know about on-campus housing.

If you are wanting to live in a more traditional style of living, choosing a dorm would be the best choice! The best dorms for transfer students on campus are either Stout or the Villages. But if you are interested in living in a non-traditional style, then choosing an apartment in the Family and Graduate Students Housing Apartments is the best option.

Stay far away from Kerr-Drummond!

A little bit about Stillwater, Oklahoma .

Oklahoma State University is in a small town in Payne County named Stillwater. The town is very much considered a college town. It is mostly known for its association with the university but outside of that, Stillwater is known for some major attractions, such as the Oklahoma Botanical Garden and Arboretum, the Tumbleweed Calf Fry, Stillwater Opera House, and Gardiner Art Gallery, among others.

The best restaurants to choose from.

Being a picky eater myself, it is hard to find restaurants that I will eat at. But Stillwater is full of restaurants guaranteed to suite all! My top ten favorite Stillwater restaurants are…

1. McAlister's

2. Tropical Smoothie Café

3. Chick-fil-A

4. Aspen Coffee Company

5. Slim Chickens

6. Panda Express

7. Golden Dragon

8. Taco Bell

9. Olive Garden

10. Subway

The best bars and liquor stores in town.

If you are twenty-one or older then the best bars to grab a drink at are Outlaws, the Tumbleweed, the Union, and the College Bar on the strip. For liquor stores, Brown's Bottle Shop and JR's Liquor, Wine & Beer are the best options.

The sporting events to attend & school traditions to partake in.

At Oklahoma State University, the top sporting event to attend in person is, of course, football! Closely following football are other popular sporting events such as basketball games, baseball games, wrestling matches, soccer games, and golf matches.

If sports are not your cup of tea, then participating in school traditions is highly recommended! The most popular Oklahoma State traditions are the annual Homecoming events (minus the game), Bedlam game day, finals week pancakes, The Walk, and singing Oklahoma State's Alma Mater.

Oklahoma State University’s seasonal weather and what to wear.

Oklahoma State University's seasonal weather can be extreme and sometimes chaotic. In the summer and fall, May through October will be hot. You will want to wear summer clothes (i.e. shorts, tank tops, short sleeve shirts). In the winter, November through mid-March will be cold. You will want to wear warmer clothes (i.e. jeans and long sleeve shirts), but you will want to pack snow clothes for the deepest part of the season (i.e. snow shoes, snow coat, scarf, gloves). In the spring, mid-March through May you want to wear cooler clothes (i.e. jeans, short sleeve shirts, light weight jackets). Another type of clothing that will be extremely useful would be rain gear (i.e. rain boots, umbrella, rain jacket) for those stormy spring days.

Oklahoma State University’s famous phrases.

Being an Oklahoma State University student, there are famous phrases that you will say for the rest of your life. You will find yourself yelling them in excitement, saying them as a response in awkward conversations, and saying them when you tell your stories of your college days. The top four famous phrases are…

1. Go Pokes!

2. Pistols Firing!

3. Orange... POWER!!

4. America's Brightest Orange

Good luck!

Good luck on your next two years at Oklahoma State University! They are going to be the best. Within this chapter of your life, you are going to achieve great success. We cannot wait to see you at Oklahoma State University!
