An Open Letter To My Dog

This is for you, my beautiful, perfect pup.

An Open Letter To My Dog
Emma Bice

You've listened to me when I needed ears. You're always able to make me laugh, even when I don't want to. You've accepted me, regardless of my mistakes and blemishes. You're my best friend. And you're a dog.

You won't ever read this and sadly I can't tag you in this article because...well...you're a dog. But I wish you knew how happy you make me. I wish I could tell you what a perfect tiny specimen you are. If only you knew what a huge impact you've made on me and my life. Because of you, I am a more responsible, loving, patient, and forgiving person. My overall well-being has vastly improved, and I owe it all to you, my beautiful, perfect pup.

Every time you pee on the rug or rip up my homework (yes, my dog has ate my homework), I can't look into those innocent eyes and honestly be angry.

Every time you bark at a stranger or growl at the doorbell, I think to myself, "How lucky am I? This being cares for my safety more than any person."

Every time you learn a new trick or listen to a new command I feel a sense of pride that only you can make me feel.

Every time someone asks "What kind of dog do you have?" I whip out my phone with recent photos so quick you'd think I was a new mother.

Yes, I am undeniably a crazy dog lady. I'm that person that constantly shows off pictures of my dog and will not let you into my home if my dog does not trust you. I would swim the ocean for my pup, and I have absolutely no shame. She is loyal to me in every way possible, and it is my responsibility to return the favor. Without her wet puppy kisses, late night cuddles, and little paws, I would be lost in the world. She's the reason I wake up in the morning (even if it is to take her out so she doesn't pee on my new carpet).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
