An Open Letter To My Siblings

Dear Siblings,

I want to start off this letter by saying I don't know where I would be without you guys. You have been changing my life constantly and I'm so thankful for your help in shaping my life. You all have helped me through some of the toughest moments of my life and you all taught me how I could learn from those experiences. Being the middle child isn't easy but It's something that I have come to love. I love that you guys are in my life and am so thankful for you all.

To my older brother, you are one of the biggest role models in my life and I am so proud of all that you have accomplished. It was hard for me when you left to go out into the world and make your own path but it is amazing how much you have grown. When I was young, you taught me that I could be anything I waned to be in this world. You fostered my imagination and helped me grow and change throughout my childhood. You trained me to be a Jedi, a Power Ranger, a fighter pilot in space, and a professional football player. You are now a father and I an uncle. Your son and my nephew brings such joy to your life and I honestly cannot wait to have kids of my own. Thank you for being my older brother and for teaching me new things everyday.

To my older sister, you have been one of the biggest factors in helping me shape my call. I love sharing the middle sibling spot with you and I wouldn't want to share it with anyone else! When we were younger we wrestled, we joked, you dressed me up in clothes I didn't want to wear, and you comforted me when I was down. As, I got older you forced me to watch chick flicks with you and helped me enjoy America's Next Top Model at times. When I found out that you had felt a call to ministry, I wanted to ask you so many questions. Then I heard my own call and we have been helping each other grow in our ministries ever since. You have helped me through all of my questions and trials. You helped me shape who I am today and I am so thankful for everything you do for me.

Finally to my younger brother, I don't even know where to begin with you. You are absolutely crazy and you drive me insane but that's what you are for right? You have had the biggest impact on my life and I'm so proud of you for everything you have done. I'm also so proud of how much you have grown into your own and become your own person. Sure, one day you may be taller than me and I have come to accept that but that's all a part of growing up. I'm sorry that I'm not around for this extremely developmental stage in your life, but I know you are going to do great things in your life. I know that I have been hard on you at times but that's my job as an older brother. I was hard on you because I knew you would grow and become the person you have become today. I can't wait for you to get to high school so I can cheer for you in the stands while you march under the Friday night lights. I could not have asked for better younger brother. You have shaped and changed my life almost as much as I have yours. I wish you could be here with me at college making all the stupid jokes that no one understands. But I know that we have to make our own paths in life, and I know that we will be helping each other every step of the way. I'm so proud of you and how much you have grown in your life.

So thank you to you three. You have helped me form who I am and how I want to live my life. I love and miss you all and I know that you are all doing great things in the world. I don't know where I would be without you all. Thanks for everything.

Love,

Your Brother

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
