An Open Letter To My "Brother"
Have you ever had a family member that was not related by blood? Well, I have, and I consider him my brother. Blood doesn't make a family, relationships make a family. Mine, luckily is my "brother." Hopefully, that is yours, also.
When we first met, all those years ago, I knew that you were going to be my best friend and "brother" forever. We were both lucky and unlucky enough to be there for each other while we were growing up so we got to see all the embarrassing times and non-prime years. When I look back at pictures, all I think is "wow, I hope we got better looking!" and let me say, thank god we are not the judgmental type.
You are always there when I need someone, and I don't thank you enough for it. I never realized how many times I would call you needing boy advice (thank you for that by the way, it's always very helpful). Whether it was problems in school, home, or with friends, you always gave the best advice on how to get rid of the problem. There have been so many times when I would have a bad day and you were the first person I called and you gave me advice (better than my mom, but don't tell her that). Also, thank you for ALWAYS fixing my computer or phone when I broke it, because let's face it, you're the best and only computer nerd I know.
I never thanked you enough for going to prom with me when my prom date canceled on me. It didn't matter that we are "cousins" or that I consider you my "brother," what mattered was that you were there for me and I will always be there for you. But you know what, prom rocked and the people don't matter (we don't need to see their faces again).
I am very sorry for all the times I made you sit on the couch and listen to me vent about all of my emotions and girl problems. You must be tired of me already. I am very surprised you haven't cut your ears off yet. I'm very thankful that you would just sit there, listen to me complain and sometimes not say anything at all, because that is what I needed at times. You always know when the right and wrong times are to put your input in and I'm glad for that because no one else does.
As we get older and we go our separate ways, I will always remember all the times that we had when we were kids. I know that whenever we need each other, we will always be there for one another, no matter what it takes. It doesn't matter if it consists of a run to 7-11 to get Doughnuts and Soda and then driving around or just sitting on the couch watching Paranormal Activity, quality time is quality time, no matter how old we are.
Thank you for being you, you're the best.
Love Your "Sister"
