Thank you, Starbucks barista, for everything you do. Thank you for remembering my name and asking me how my morning is going each and every morning (even though, let’s be honest, it’s not going well because it’s 7:30 a.m. before I’ve had my daily dose of caffeine). Thank you for attempting to remember my order when I can’t even remember it myself. I know that my venti iced coffee with coconut milk and vanilla and caramel syrup is not the easiest thing to remember.
Without you I would not be able to fully function each day as I tread onward to work or class. Because of you, I have been able to stay awake in accounting, economic and even math. You have helped me to overcome many challenges. We conquered midterms and finals together; you even worked longer hours to keep me awake during my all-nighters. When you don’t make me pay for my drink, I don’t think you even understand how happy you make me (you make my whole day, heck, my whole semester!).
The best part of our friendship is that I always know you’ll be there for me. I knew we would be lifelong friends when I got my Gold Card in 2007 (yes, my Gold Card reads “Cardholder Since 2007” for all of you who think 2012 or 2013 was a long time). I was a little seventh grader when the addiction began, and although my addiction has only gotten progressively worse through the years, I know that I would not have been able to get through school (or life) without you by my side.
I’ve stuck by your side during price increases, and you’ve stuck by my side during the 40 days that I gave coffee up for Lent (and still remembered my name afterward). I look forward to walking into Starbucks each morning to see all my favorite baristas smiling and ready to take on a long line of people who need their coffee to survive. No matter what the day throws my way, one thing is certain — my Starbucks barista will be there, ready to take my order and get me through my day, and for this I thank you.
