I totally get it.
You walk around the halls of school every single day and you feel like you just don't measure up. You're never going to be as pretty as the most obviously beautiful girl in school. You're never going to be a part of the popular crowd that look so glamorous day after day. You're never going to be satisfied with yourself until everyone knows your name and wants to be in your friend group.
Being a girl is rough, especially in high school. It's so easy to point out what you're "not," instead of what you "are." It's simple to make lists of things you "can't" do, instead of what you "can" do.
If you're one of those gals who doesn't give a rip what people think of you and can go to school every day not feeling the need to belong to some group, I applaud you. It takes a lot of courage and confidence in yourself to be able to have that mindset.
Pretty often, the world around us will make us feel like we are "less than." We will be told we aren't skinny enough, we aren't beautiful enough, we aren't popular enough, we aren't smart enough. We are less than society's definition of perfect.
But in times when we feel like that, we need to remember that we have a God who created us in nothing "less than" His perfect image. He thought we were worth so much that He gave up His life so we could live ours.
It's easy to say that we just don't belong or fit in anywhere, but Christ said in His word that we are His. Isaiah 43:1 says, "But now, this is what the Lord says— He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine." Why would you want to belong to the world of common people when you can belong to the King himself?
Focusing on what the world thinks of us and stressing out over every person's opinion of us, will inevitably stamp "inadequate" across our foreheads. However, when we focus on what our Father has to say about us, we can be labelled "chosen."
At some point in our lives, we're all going to feel "less than" and unworthy; it's just a side effect of the world we live in. But the good news is, Christ thought we were worth dying for; He chose us to be His! We don't have to live in fear of opinions and not measuring up; we just have to remember who we belong to and straighten our crowns.
"I am the daughter of a King who is not moved by the world. For my God is with me, and goes before me. I do not fear because I am His." -Unknown
