Dear Gay Best Friend,

I am so happy I met you the summer you were going into freshman year and I was going to be a junior, I feel like that was a time we both really needed each other. We don’t always get along and we may fight sometimes, but we always get through it. When we became friends I wasn’t really sure if you were gay or straight, but I didn’t care. I loved you for who you were and still are. Now, I don’t really want to make this is really sappy letter, but there are a few things I want you to know.

I loved the late nights we had together where we would sit in your driveway just talking for hours about what was going on in our lives. We would talk like we had known each other for years. Honestly if I hadn’t met you that summer I’m not sure I would have made it through my junior year without having a mental breakdown. You always knew the right thing to say and when to say it. You always knew how to make me feel better when I was having a rough day and I love you for that so much.

There was never really a time when you came out to me, it was just like I had always known. I felt like sometimes you were too scared to actually tell me because you weren’t sure what I would say or do and if you ever thought that, you are completely crazy. You mean the world to me and being away a college this last year has been rough. I don’t want you to ever be scared to talk to me. I would never judge you, even if it is something I might not like you doing, I don’t care. Just come out and tell me and I can either support you or try and help you out.

I remember the night you got in my car and you told me you had finally come out to your mom. I was so proud of you that day, and I feel like that day you became so much stronger, happier, and confident. Your mom was also proud of you that day and she is still proud of you. A mother provides unconditional love and care to her children no matter what. Your mom will always love you and all she wants is for you to be happy. We don’t care who you love or who you want to date, just as long as you are happy we will always stand by your side.

I love you so much and please don’t ever forget that and if you ever need anything please know I am here. You mean absolutely everything to me and if you are ever unhappy then so am I. You need to forget what the world is telling and just do you. I just want you to remember that you don’t need to be scared or change yourself for anyone. If someone doesn’t except you for you then get them out of your life!
