An Open Letter To My First Car

An Open Letter To My First Car

Dear First Car,

Most of us go through life focusing on what we want rather than what we have. We tend to take for granted things that are right in front of us, and one of those things happened to be you. You were my very first car and never once did I think leaving you would be this difficult. I'm trying to look at this from a positive perspective, a "letting go of the past" type of thing, but trust me, it is hard. Although we must go separate ways, you to someone else, me to another car, I want to thank you for all of the things you've done for me:

1. Having my own dance party

All of those times where I almost blew out the speakers because my favorite song came on, and I just had to bust out the sprinkler at the red light, thank you for letting me be myself. No matter what stares I got during those three minutes of pure, insane, goofy dancing, I felt free and you let me.

2. Hosting my very own "The Voice"

From me belting out the wrong lyrics to a song to my best friends and I screaming the words to the newest Top 10, you've heard it all.

3. Being my second home

Those mornings when I skipped English in high school just to sit in the car with a cup of coffee, listening to "Ryan's Roses" because it was just too damn intense for me to leave for school, I will always remember them. Even those nights when I was too irresponsible to be the DD even though I said I would, so I ended up sleeping in this car.

4. Listening to every fight I had

Whether it was on the phone with my mom or in the car with my ex, you heard all the tears, yelling, emotional breakdowns, everything.

5. Witnessing love

Although fights were hashed out in this car, love developed, too. From the first time I kissed someone in there to when things got hot and steamy, you know it all. The very first "I love you" or the countless times I casually held hands with that special someone, it was love that you got to experience with me.

6. Car accidents

Remember that one time when my family made me get Pinkberry for them and it resulted in a car accident? Then the next day, I love-tapped someone's car? Yeah, good times. Thanks for letting me create dents and scratches on you.

7. Being my closet on wheels

I would have a change of clothes for any weather or event in this car. If I went to dinner with my family and quickly needed to change to go out with my friends, an outfit was there in the trunk, ready to be worn.

8. Watching me grow

The first time I sat down on the driver's seat, I was a lot younger, more naive about the world, and now, the last time I'm going to sit here, I will leave more mature and more understanding of myself. Throughout the years, from high school to college, I have changed into a better me and I'm glad you were able to a part of my growing up.

The countless of times I drove on empty to the long drives with every window down and the music blaring, I will remember it all. I apologize for all the times someone threw up on you, myself included. You will forever be the best first car. It's not a goodbye; it's a see you vroom.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
