To All Cat Haters in the World,
This is a letter regarding my confusion on your hatred of the feline species. I would like to share my story on being a cat lover in hopes you will consider what every person who likes cats thinks of you. You probably will still think dogs are better than cats, however, I hope you will give cats the chance they deserve as a pet.
Ever since I left the womb there have been cats in my life. First starting with Kitty, a cat my dad brought home out of sympathy as he discovered her in a box. In every picture of my first 18 months of life Kitty makes a cameo appearance, thus my parents discovered I would be a cat person before I even said "Mama."
Cats play a crucial part in my life. They bring joy, laughter, and a whole lot of warmth to anyone, which is why it confuses me. How do you hate cats? I understand, you're allergic or you just never have had one, but why must you hate such an amazing animal? Cats can be just as friendly and loyal as dogs and require little maintenance from their owner. They are funny and outgoing and each have their own unique personalities, just like dogs do. Therefore, I will never understand such a common hatred for cats.
Some cats can be mean, but some dogs can be just as mean as well, and people often forget that. I do adore both animals and I truly wish others felt the same. Approximately 3.4 million cats enter the animal shelters every year that are never adopted and are forced to be euthanized. These animals are helpless and the common schema that cats are mean and poor companions prevents them from getting adopted. I have adopted three cats in my lifetime and each one of them holds a special place in my heart. They have incredible personalities and are so independent that taking care of them is fun and easy. Think about it: they clean themselves, which saves you the time and money of grooming; they are born with the skill of using a litter box which means no potty training for you; and they can be the nicest pets in the world which stops you from ever getting lonely late at night!
All in all, when you claim you hate cats, stop judging them! You do not hate all people because one person was mean to you in first grade just as you should not hate all cats because you had one bad experience with a cat. I understand adopting a cat is a bit extreme if you "hate" cats, but at least give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that their are such nice cats in the world that need the love and attention you could give to them!
Stop living your life hating cats for no reason, they do not hate you and they are such cool animals. I challenge you to give them a chance and next time you are at the animal shelter go in and pet them! There you will see how great of animals cats truly are.
Sincerely,
A Proud Cat Person
