An Open Letter To The Guy I Thought I Loved

I thought I was in love with you. Turns out I was wrong, but thank you for teaching me a lot.

An Open Letter To The Guy I Thought I Loved

* Cue Justin's new song "Love Yourself" *

Hey There,

I don't think that you'll ever see this and I haven't written anything about you ever. It's probably a good thing that you don't I really would rather avoid the conversation, but I wanted to thank you for teaching me about toxic relationships and that it is totally possible to be more in love with an idea of someone than that actual person.

I would like to thank you for also teaching me that no matter what someone says they can still betray you, but it shouldn't make you afraid to love.

I want to thank you for breaking my heart. Seriously. I know weird right? Well more or less allowing me to break my own heart. It taught me how to act right. I learned a lot from how you mistreated me and how not to put up with it from anyone else. You wanted me to hold myself back to make yourself feel better. Lying to my face and me letting it slide.

See I thought I was in love with you because you were the first person to say all of the right things and I mean that in the vaguest of ways possible. You had me so convinced that you cared for every cell of my body so completely that I had this idea that it would go places. Plus situations seemed to just work out to our advantage. The lighting and timing were right. Maybe it was that we always hung out around sunset or when it was dark out so I couldn't really see past your facade. Plus you never got caught.

I thought I was in love with you and after months of you continuously feeding me lies all of which I accepted like someone receiving food who had been stranded on an island for months on end. To in the end have you still not choose to be with me hurt. I found myself in those months in the most annoying way possible. I found that I still don't hate you even though everyone who has asked what's the worst thing that a guy has ever done to me I have to explain in the shorter version of what happened between us.

I really hope that you are happy because I am, just as I told you I would be. I remember you texting me after a few days of not texting just to tell me to delete your number even though I already had. Thank you for respecting my wishes to have you never contact me ever again. It's allowed me to see that I was so wrong about us and about you. The good thing about time and the human brain is eventually those things that were important stop being important because you find new better things and the time helps you forget what the feelings really felt like. I don't mean forget in the bad way either because I still remember how much fun we had.

I really hope you decided to treat women better as well as yourself. You gave me good memories and a good life experience so thank you for that.

Just because you did a bad thing doesn't make you a bad person.

Thank you for teaching me that in order to love someone you have to love yourself. I wish you luck in all of your endeavors whom or what ever they may be.

Deuces,

A girl you'll forget about if you haven't already.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
