If it were me, I'd stay with you for hours,
Casting all my plans for sail out to sea;
I would listen to all your sweets and sours
And talk with you all night if need may be.
If it were me, I'd wrap you up in hugs –
Out of pure friendship, not anything more –
To lessen the weight, make fewer your lugs,
Just so you know of our too special core…
Special of a case I may be to one,
Off'ring what in my heart I have to give,
I simply ask you to get this deed done:
If not for me, sift one's pain; be their sieve.
While I've yet to claim my own desire –
To find connection, among many things –
With those who truly deserve this fire,
The ones who matter and want the same wings.
All those long talks I don't wish to replay
To those who remain, if any at all…
The ones who stop versus the ones who stay,
Would they dare listen, and later recall?
Those are the ones I should be looking for –
Not those with sweet words and sour aftertaste –
So, while you'd pay with equal heart forward,
I'll pay forward my own heart with no haste.
