My sister was eight years old when I was born (sorry Katie I ruined your dreams of being an only child your entire life). Growing up, I always longed for a sibling closer to my age. Looking back, I realize how blessed I was with a sister who was so much older than me. She was basically my mom but way cooler than my actually mom (sorry mom). Having a sister nearly ten years older than me to guide me through life has been the biggest blessing. Of course there are downsides to being the younger sister (like being called annoying all the time and for wanting to hang with the older girls), but there are way more advantages that overlap the downsides.

1. I had someone to guide me through the awkward teen years

I seriously have no idea how I would have survived middle school without my big sister. She went through the same awkward puberty stage as me, so it was nice to have someone to give me advice on how to tackle overcoming the awkwardness that is middle school.

2. I was basically her human barbie doll as a child

When I was a toddler, my sister and her friends would always take turns dressing me up in different outfits. I loved every minute of it, because I was getting to hang out with the cool girls (even though that stopped when they all when to high school).

3. She introduced me to the BEST music growing up

Was it normal for a seven year old to know every word to "Low" by Flo Rida? I doubt it, but my taste in music was far better than the other kids my age at the time.

4. Her closet was my playground

Yes, I was that annoying little sister who would sneak into my big sister's room and snoop in her stuff when she wasn't home. I used to love going into my sister's closet and try on her clothes (and steal a couple of shirts while I was in there).

5. She provided me with the BEST advice

From dealing with girl drama at school to boy drama, my sister always knew what to say to me. After all, she had been there done that, so she knew exactly how to help me handle my problems .

6. She showed me how to put on make-up

I LOVED it when my sister would put make-up on me as a child. My mom didn't like it because I was "too young" (I was nine or ten but whatever). I was cool for going to elementary school with mascara and blush on (or at least I thought I was cool).

7. She made me an aunt at a young age

I still find it hard to believe that my sister actually has a child of her own, but being an aunt to my niece is the best thing ever. I cannot wait to watch my niece grow up and do life with her as her cool and fun aunt:)

8. She was (and will always be) my biggest protector

No one will protect you more than your big sister, no matter what the age difference is. We fought like cats and dogs growing up. Now that we are both (kind of) adults, we are closer than ever. I would not trade my childhood upbringing with my much older sister, and I cannot wait to continue life together as adults.

Seriously thank you for loving me and for telling me I looked good even when I looked like this. You are the best big sister.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
