In the 1990s, Russia's First Channel aired a series of New Year's Eve musicals called "Old songs about the main thing." Konstantin Ernst and Leonid Parfenov came up with the idea and wrote the script. "Old Songs About the Main Things" is a festival featuring well-known and popular artists performing favorite songs. Each musical depicted a different time period in Russian history. The musicals were based on songs that were popular in the Soviet Union at the time. The 1940s and 1950s were depicted in the first issue of the cycle "Old songs about the main thing," the 1960s in the second, and the 1970s and first half of the 1980s in the third.
