It's OK To Not Have Everything Figured Out

What do you do when you don't know what to do?

It's OK To Not Have Everything Figured Out

Some people know exactly what they want to do with their life. They have it all figured out, or so it seems. Those are the people everyone envies. I wish I was able to say that I had it all "figured out" and that I knew exactly who I was and who I wanted to be in life, but heck, I rarely even know what I want to eat for lunch. And you know what? That's OK. It's perfectly fine to not know what you want out of life.

I am 19 years old. I am a freshman in college. I am studying both broadcast journalism and political science. When people ask me what I want to do with that, my answer is "I don't know yet." Some people nod their heads and change the subject, some cock their heads to the side and look at me with a mixed look of confusion and pity. It used to really bother me. I would doubt myself and wonder if this journey that I'm partaking in, was it really worth it? Why are you spending thousands of dollars a year to not know what you are doing? Here's the answer. I'm spending thousands of dollars a year to figure out what I want to do. I'm 19 years old and have plenty of time to figure out what I want to do. Who knows? Tomorrow I could decide that I want to be a botanist or maybe even a chemist.

It's all about passion! Finding out what you have a passion for and figuring out how you can do that thing you have a passion for every day of your life, and make a living off of it. For me, I discovered my passion while watching a show on HBO. I know, that sounds weird, but it was almost like an epiphany. For some people, something similar to that happens to them, and for others, it's different. I've always been told that if you do something you love for a job then it's really not a job at all. I believe that to be true.

So don't worry, and don't stress. If you don't know what you want to do with your life, who you are, or who you want to be, it's OK. One day, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, or maybe a month from now, you will figure it all out and everything will make sense. I can't wait to figure out exactly what I want. Everything will work out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
