Ohio Stands With Paris

When thousands of opinions just aren't enough.

Ohio Stands With Paris

On a night filled with lights music and fun in a country far from our own, no one could imagine what lay ahead for 150 innocent attendees in the local concert hall and soccer stadium.

Like the attack with the World Trade Centers, this was less than unprecedented. According to reports from The Week, Eagles of Death hadn’t made it an hour into their set before the Bataclan concert hall turned red with blood from innocent ticket holder’s bodies outlining the halls.

As I sat in my kitchen staring at the screen listening to the screams of the victims echoing off the video footage a bystander submitted, I couldn’t help but feel my heart break as my eyes stayed glued with interest.

Like many other controversial terrorist topics such as this, how is America reacting? Many news organizations claim that we as Americans should stand with Paris as they declare war on the gunman who disrupted their peace.

Youngstown State Alumni, Jenna Latcheran said she had been seeing posts on Facebook about how others have matters such as the ever growing black people matter.

“It’s so frustrating because this is a completely different case and this should not be brought up now and it should not always be continually brought up for any tragic thing that has happened,” Latcheran said.

There’s no way to imagine the true motive behind the number of gunmen who stormed the streets with only one thing on their mind to seek out the innocent and develop the massacre they did on many locations such as the soccer stadium among others. What was once a city of love is now a city of mourning.

Two citizens expressed their opinion on the tragedy with not only Paris but the conflict between ISIS and our own homeland.

Denny Fetty, a resident of East Liverpool said that letting the brotherhood mix is a possible reason for this attack happening. “It is a tragedy. But several years ago, they opted out of the war on terror they allowed Muslim brotherhood to come in and now they were attacked,” Fetty said. “I believe their lack of concern for radical Islamists led them down this road because France has been passive and let it be known they were weak.”

The question was asked to Emily Walker, a student at YSU as to whether Americans should stand with Paris or let them fight this battle on their own. She has this to say, “stand up for them they have been long time allies of ours,” Walker said. “Not to mention, ISIS is affecting the US, too. They've beheaded a ton of our people and plan to destroy us just as much as any other country. I think we should stand together.”

This statement holds true that it’s our responsibility as citizens of the United States to stand with one of our allies and bring the light that once shined bright on the city of love. Who will continue to stand with me for Paris?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
