My Flex Triple Was A Blessing In Disguise

My Flex Triple Was A Blessing In Disguise

We've been at school for a little over a month and a half. So far there have been many twists and turns. For me, one of these has been my rooming assignment. I am in a flex-triple. In this case, we all know that flex really means forced.

I had been planning to room with my friend, Katie, since May. We were getting worried because we had heard rumors about lounges getting turned into rooms and there are too many kids for the dorms available.

When we got our rooming assignment, we were very excited at first because just our two names were shown. We were informed soon after that that we would also have a third roommate. Obviously, this wasn't the end of the world, but we weren't necessarily thrilled.

We got really lucky. I have heard horror stories about people being in a flex triple and not liking their roommates. I am so thankful that this is not the case for me.

Now that we have gotten to know each other, we love our third roommate. We all get along really well and have similar interests.

I have never had to share a room with someone. It is a little difficult sharing an 11 foot by 14-foot space with two other people, but we make it work. We had to get a little creative with the use of our space. All three of our beds are lofted which is very convenient. We all have our own space so we don't have to be up in each other's stuff.

Our room only had two closets. Instead of trying to split two closets for three people, Katie brought a garment hanging rack to put in the one open corner of our room. She turned this into her closet. This has been so helpful!

Being in a flex triple has helped with communication. In any roommate situation, you have to be able to communicate with one another, but I have two people to communicate with, which can sometimes make this a little more difficult. When we want to change something we have to make sure that we are all in agreement.

Luckily, I haven't had to experience any serious altercations with my roommates, but we have gotten into some slight disagreements. These are usually resolved with a simple apology and a compromise.

I think what has helped us the most is being so open with each other. My roommates are two of my closest friends, and I can tell them anything that is going on. This has helped to make it less awkward when there is something that isn't working out in our room.

My roommate situation has worked out so much better than I had ever anticipated. I was really worried about nothing. I now love having two roommates, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
