If you like to watch TV shows and movies, chances are you’ve seen your fair share of violence and romance. If you watch prime time TV, violence is everywhere, between shows such as CSI and various other crime and police/detective shows. I don’t really watch much TV so you’ll have to forgive me for not being more specific. However, I have seen enough to have seen my fair share of explosions, people being shot and killed and lots of fighting. Violence seems to be widely accepted and deemed appropriate for television. I could never understand why violence is O.K. but if any sort of nudity or sex is shown on TV, it is scandalous and inappropriate.
We are all born in the same birthday suit. As we grow up, we all have our own outward appearances and body shapes, but at the end of the day, we all keep our birthday suits. If someone dares to show a little skin, especially girls, they’re a “slut.” Girls have to cover their nipples, but boys don’t. We can’t walk around naked if it’s 100 degrees out and all we want to do is strip.
WHY NOT?
The only reason that is is scandalous to see someone in the nude is because from a very young age, society drills it into our heads that letting other people see you naked is wrong. If it was deemed acceptable, it would not be scandalous for people to walk around naked if they so desired, people would not get crap for posing nude for magazines, and people would likely be more comfortable in their own skin.
It is ridiculous that violence and murder are deemed okay for television, but the second there is a glimpse of a naked body or sex, it is inappropriate. Everyone has a body underneath his or her clothing, and most living beings have sex at some point in their lives, and it is completely natural.
Our bodies should not be voodoo like they are often made out to be. I think every body is beautiful and I love how how everyone’s body is different. We should be proud of our bodies and not be forced to keep them covered all the time if we don’t want them to be. We should be able to choose how much or how little we want our bodies to be shown without being judged or shamed for it. Nudity on TV should not be deemed worse than violence on TV.
We should be able to portray our bodies any way we want to.
