It Is Okay To Not Work While In College

When people find out you're not working while in college, it baffles their brain. But why is not having a job while attending college a bad thing?

Not having a job while in school seems to be looked down upon a lot, possibly because it is as if those who don't work are lazy. But that might not be the case!

If you ever find out someone doesn't have a job, just hold your judgment because you never know their reasoning behind this decision. Do they volunteer somewhere to do something they love? It's not a paying job, but it is still time-consuming.

Are they more school-focused? Maybe they need to maintain a certain GPA to stay in their major's program, so maybe having a job might ruin that.

Do they need to help take care of things at home, such as getting their siblings off the bus and making them dinner? Those are just a few examples. There are so many more reasons why college students may choose not to work.

I think that is okay.

I am a full-time student, and I do not have a job. However, I am a hard worker in all my classes, I volunteer every Sunday as a teacher's assistant for a Sunday School, I take my grandmother to her weekly activities, and I make sure my daily chores are completed.

Sure, many people do that, plus work, and that is amazing. I did too once. I had a part-time job during my sophomore year of college, and I loved it; it is where I met my best friend! But once that job came to an end, I never went back out looking for another one. Unfortunately, I got some judgment from some friends and some family members, but overall, I chose not to get another part-time job to benefit me academically and mentally.

The main reason for that is because I saw my grades get better when I wasn't working. I was more focused on my school work that I was actually understanding the material, and my mental health got a lot better, too. I was no longer juggling a job, plus school, plus homework, plus my volunteer work, plus my other responsibilities.

When I was working, I felt myself stretching way too thin.

College is a stressful time for everyone, especially those who work while attending school. This article is not here to discredit those who work while in school. There are so many reasons why people do work while in college, and in fact, I admire those are able to work plus go to school! You are like superheroes to me.

But there are many people that do not work while in school, and that doesn't mean their life is a walk through the park. It can be just as stressful. So, please stop discrediting those who do not work while attending school. There may be more to their reasoning then they want to reveal.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
