As I'm sure you all have heard, former Bruce Jenner is now Caitlyn Jenner. To some, that is completely appalling, to others it is utterly amazing, and he is their new hero, idol, or even god. But what about the people that are in the middle? With Caitlyn's debut, social media has been filled with controversy, and there's a very split population of people who are for or against her lifestyle choice.
And many of these opinions have really ticked me off, so here's what I have to say:
Why does society force you to have extreme social views? Many liberals, who want to portray themselves as accepting of all and those who embrace people's differences, seem to be the most closed-minded when it comes to valuing anyone else's opinion.
I'm not saying anyone that calls themselves a conservative is a saint. I'm just saying you should try to see things from their perspective. Just like any group or party, there are good and bad people.
However, it seems like it's come to the point where if you are not 100% encouraging of Caitlyn's transformation, then you are basically an awful human being, which I think is absurd because everyone has their own values and beliefs.
Here's my stance on the situation. Everyone was given one life. Everyone has the right to do with it what they please, if it does not harm anyone else's life or well-being. No one should be offended by anyone's choices, if they do not affect other lives. Those choices include the right to believe in whatever he or she wants to believe in. On that note, for the most "broadminded" party to be so aggressive and offensive to those that don't share their beliefs is an insult to humanity, and a contradiction to what they claim to stand for.
Now, my stance on Caitlyn Jenner: I think Caitlyn's life is her life, and she deserves to be happy. However, I do not think her doing this makes her a hero in any way.
Her undergoing physical transitions, I believe, is a superficial act. It's to boost her self-esteem and make herself feel comfortable in her own skin. By all means, if that makes her happy, she has every right to have done it. What I don't understand is how this makes her heroic.
This debate is one of many among extreme liberals and conservatives. I disagree with the politically extreme points of view that society is pushing individuals to have.
For example,
It's come to the point in society where if you don't have a liberal view, then you are hated and ignorant. You are homophobic and prejudiced. It's come to the point that it's almost wrong to believe in the teachings of your religion or the traditions of your family. It's become wrong to teach your kids that marriage within a church is a sacred gift between a man and a woman. You might believe LGBT couples should have equal LEGAL rights, but also that church's should keep the sacrament of marriage between a man and a woman. And what's wrong with that?
Some can argue that if God intended a man and a man to marry then they would be able to reproduce. Some don't understand that believing this isn't supporting discrimination, but supporting tradition. I agree with modernizing society to what's appropriate. I disagree with the attempt to make society one huge "anything goes" bubble, because I think traditions and boundaries, to some extent, are the foundation of any strong community. Is it so wrong to have some sort of values these days? Is it so wrong to be somewhat conservative, while also somewhat liberal?
I'm sick of society forcing people to jump on the liberal extremist bandwagon. I'm not prejudiced, and I'm one of the most open-minded and accepting people you might ever meet. Yet, I strongly believe in my traditional values.
