Nostalgia for the Big House

It's not just a game.

Nostalgia for the Big House

I've never really been into football all that much. My family always gets really into hockey and soccer. Everyone in my family played ice hockey, and I was always inside these freezing cold arenas watching either relatives or professionals play. Here at the University of Michigan though, the fall and football season is something that is so rare and special to everyone in the Ann Arbor community that is greatly missed now as we approach the freezing cold winter. Football is something that brings the entire school together, all of the students so proud to attend such an amazing and spirited school. Football isn’t just about the football game, but is an entire day of festivities to celebrate football Saturday. I now have been granted a deep appreciation for football, being one of my favorite sports to watch and experience and really getting into each and every game my wolverines played.

I remember the first football game I went to, only two days after I first got here. My roommate and I were talking about how we didn’t know what it was going to be like, but we know it was a big day for the entire school and we were excited to celebrate it. That game day was one of the best days of my life, making me feel like I was a part of something so awesome and extraordinary. Everywhere you looked, people were blasting music and dancing, and everyone had the biggest smiles on their faces. You would see girls and guys decked out in head to toe maize and blue, and when walking to the stadium on Hoover you’d be in a giant swarm of it. Walking into the stadium, I had a rush of excitement and anxiousness. The first time I walked through my section and a stadium greeted my eyes my jaw dropped in amazement. Here was the biggest stadium in the world, and I got to be in it. The community at the University of Michigan is something so special, and feeling like your school is the best school in the world is something so unique and important.

Now, I am having my date party at the Big House, and I can’t be more excited. This stadium brings back so many amazing memories already just in one season, and I can’t wait to see what it’ll be like from the other end like the players. Every time I get to go in that stadium is a privilege, especially this time getting to stand on the actual turf field.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
