A dumb man named Al Cowlings once said, “If you're gonna shoot O.J., you've got to shoot me first.” To that, I say, in the context of Starz hit series, Power, “If you're gonna shoot Ghost, you don't really have to go through anybody because everyone wants him dead to be honest.” I'd even say his girlfriend, Angie would kill him for the right price. The Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson produced drama that propelled Starz to premium cable elite has returned for a third season that looks to be the best so far. With the the theme, "Ghost Must Die", the third season opens up with main character, James "Ghost" St. Patrick, and his now girlfriend, Angelo Valdez, opening up St. Patrick's new night club and then revealing that the two now live together full time. Without giving up too much for those who have yet to see the season premiere, the episode operates in the realm of possibility that James is no longer Ghost and is out of the drug business for good. How true his ambitions are have yet to be determined. With all of that being said, here my predictions for season three after checking out the premiere.
1. Dre and Ghost will come to blows.
Aside from the mystery waitress ending up dead, Dre's back and forth with James was the most interesting part of the season premiere to me. At one point, Dre tells James, "I said I want to look clean. I never said I wanted to clean." From everything I learned from Dre in the first season, it seemed as if he wanted to get out of the streets to give his daughter a better and safer life. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. As a viewer, Dre played by one of my favorite R&B singers, Rotimi, has been my favorite character. He has a noble motivation behind his hustle and he is many ways Ghost Jr. The interesting question, not for this season, but for season four and five, is, "Will the Prince behead the king at some point?"
2. Lobos will die.
Lobos is undeniably the most unstable character in the entire series. Not only does he move coke, but he does it and he still remains, aside from Kanan, the only character to end up in the feds during the shows three seasons. On top of that, he has no cash flow while he's in jail and as long as he has no cash flow, he will be and act desperate for money. Those actions will get him ki
3. Kanan will return during the second half of episode four.
Don't ask me how I know this. I just know.
4. James will become Ghost once again.
You really think he's going to say clean? No, I mean, seriously? Tommy and Julio are his brothers. They may not be biologically related, but they are bound together by brotherhood. They are family and if anything has stayed consistent about Ghost...I mean, James, throughout this entire series is that he cares about his loved one. He may not be the greatest father, husband or friend in the world, but when the time comes, he's always there for those who are loyal to him. He's not leaving Tommy by himself to do something stupid and get himself killed. More importantly, Lobos is still alive and as long he's still alive, Ghost must be alive.
5. Holly, Greg Knox and Dre will die.
All of them. All of them will die. Holly, while loyal, is easily the character in most over her head. She does not belong anywhere near the drug business, which is why Tommy tries to keep her out of it as much as possible. However, Holly is a grown woman and she will make her own decisions. It's just a shame that most of her decisions are bad decisions that end up putting her in a position where Tommy has to save her. As the great philosopher, Jermaine Cole, once said, "She don't want to be saved. Don't save her." Holly is in love with the lifestyle, but she can't handle the life. As for Greg, he's just too damn nosy and as for Dre, I'm not sold on him dying this season, but if he doesn't take the opportunity that James has given him to change his life, he will end up dead. The streets only land you in two places, jail or dead. You ain't special, Rotimi...I mean, Dre.
6. Angela will lose her job and her relationship with Ghost.
Angela is bae and her character went to the same high school as I did, but she is also the Matthew Dellavedova of attorneys--overpaid and overrated. How she still has a job after all of the bullshit she has pulled off is nothing short of a miracle. I wish I could get away with the stuff she pulls at her job. Angela keeping her job is the equivalent of a Coca-Cola employee giving a Pepsi employee the Coca-Cola formula and being able to keep her job.
7. Kantos will die.
Cantos didn't arrive where he did in the nightclub business by getting fired and giving up. While I respect his tenacity, it's what will get him killed. By who? That's for me to predict to later on and for me to probably be wrong about.
I'm really unsure about where this season is headed. Like many of you, I want to see how Kanan's character will develop when he returns and I want to know more about this mysterious waitress, but only time will tell. What we know for now is that this is sure to be one of the summer's best series.
