9 Things To Know About Me

Here are a few things to know about me!

9 Things To Know About Me
Muriel Nave

Since this is my first publication, I thought I would let my readers get to know a little bit about me!

1. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA.

I have lived in the beautiful southern city of Savannah my entire life. My parents own some waterfront property, and we spend hot summer days swimming in the river.

2. I love sports.

I grew up playing soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, swim team, softball and cheerleading. In high school, I dropped everything except volleyball and played for my school in the fall and a club team in the spring and summer. Now I go to school sport events and watch college and professional sports on TV all the time.

3. My favorite color is purple!

I’ve loved purple for most of my life. My old room was pink because it was my little sister’s favorite color, but when we did some home renovations, I got a new room and got to pick the color. I picked a light lavender purple.

4. I have a giant family.

I have one older sister, one younger sister and two younger brothers who are twins. My dad has one sister with three kids, but he has multiple cousins who all have kids, and some of those kids already have kids. My mom has two sisters and four brothers. Most of them have kids and some of those kids have kids. My extended family on my mother’s side is around one hundred people, give or take a dozen or so. Family reunions are crazy and never seem to end.

5. I’m an exercise science major.

I want to become a pediatric physical therapist and help children with disabilities gain confidence while helping them gain strength. I’ve always loved working with children, and this seems like the perfect career path for me… as long as I can pass chemistry…

6. I’m a freshman at Kennesaw State University.

I left Savannah to come to college at Kennesaw State University and get a fresh start. I knew very few people here and decided this would be the perfect place for me to explore myself and step outside of my comfort zone. I had no idea during move in that I would love my roommate enough to move in with her again the next year or that those girls who were rushing with me that I didn’t even know how to talk to would be my sisters and friends. I had no idea that living away from home would make me so homesick but so happy to be on my own at the same time.

7. I’m in Gamma Phi Beta.

I rushed during my first semester and joined Gamma Phi Beta and could not have been happier with my decision. I know that Greek life isn’t for everyone, but I would be so lost without my amazing sisters and my perfect Big. My sisters and Big have been there for me through all my crazy decisions, and supported me in every new adventure I’ve been on.

8. I have the greatest dog on the planet!

I know everyone thinks they have the best dog in the world, but there’s no way for you to convince me that yours is better than mine. She is sassy and demanding, but she is loyal and protective. She is brave and won’t back down from a fight when she thinks her family is being threatened. Every time I go home, she’s always the first family member to greet me, and when I pack and get ready to leave again, she pouts and lays by my suitcase in the entry way and ignores me when I try to give her attention so I know she’s upset with me for leaving again.

9. I’m a nerd at heart.

I love science puns. My friends from Savannah and I still play Pokemon Go, and a fun night is going head to head with my friends in Super Smash Bros. I didn’t read "The Lord of the Rings" or play Zelda growing up, but I can still catch a lot of nerdy references.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
