Carrollton, Georgia sits in a pretty convenient location. You have I-20, less than 15 minutes from Downtown, that is a gateway to almost anywhere you want to go. Also, there is US 27 that takes you up and down the western side of the state. These two main roads provide ample opportunities to get out and travel. Thankfully, all this traveling doesn't have to be multiple day drives, or drives full of nothing! There's an abundance of cool places to go, so let's take a look at nine cities to visit for fun this summer!
1. Nashville, Tennessee (4 hours, 16 minutes)
This is the big one on this list. Nashville, Nashvegas, Powder City, or Music City, whatever you want to call it, is home to many fun and interesting things for you to do! There are some of the obvious to-do's in Nashville, such as; Country Music Hall of Fame, The Grand Ole Opry, and visiting Broadway. However, there are many other things to do as well! Go visit the Corsair Distillery, Bridgestone Arena, Johnny Cash Museum, and so much more!
2. Greenville, South Carolina (3 hours, 8 minutes)
Greenville is a city that most people in Carrollton have never been to, but it is such an amazing city! The downtown area is absolutely beautiful, and caters to almost any crowd that you can imagine. If you make it downtown, watch out for the Segway Tours, as they won't be stopping for you! Things to do; Greenville Zoo, Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, watch the Greenville Drive, or go to an event at Bon Secours Wellness Arena!
3. St. George Island, Florida (5 hours, 37 minutes)
There's not a ton to say about St. George Island, outside of it being one of the most relaxing beaches you'll find! This family friendly island features exactly what you'd want from the beach- clean, white sand with clear, blue water! There are a few things to do, but don't go expecting to spend all your money on random tourists attractions!
4. Biloxi, Mississippi (5 hours, 22 minutes)
Unlike the city above, this is where money is spent all on attractions! Casinos, casinos, beach, and casinos is what you get here! Actually, I'm here now with my newly minted fiancè!
5. Savannah, Georgia (4 hours, 19 minutes)
The most fascinating thing about Savannah, to me, is all the haunted things around it. I love seeking scary opportunities, and ghosts/haunted things give me a thrill. Make time to visit the Savannah Historic District, the new Savannah Bananas- with the new bat dog, or any of the other numerous historical landmarks!
6. Knoxville, Tennessee (3 hours, 40 minutes)
I can't believe that more people don't make this trip. Knoxville is an absolute blast, housing the University of Tennessee. I imagine that game days are fun, but Knoxville itself is quite an interesting place to go. The Sunsphere is a really neat thing to do, as it will give you a 360 degree view of the city. You honestly can't miss it, it's a big golden ball in the middle of the sky. I may have a picture of myself "Tebowing," in it...back when that was cool.
7. Huntsville, Alabama (2 hours, 59 minutes)
I could spend a week in Huntsville, just at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. This place is the go to place for any person interested in space in our area should be making the trip here. They also have a ton of historical railroad museums and sites.
8. Birmingham, Alabama (1 hour, 40 minutes)
Birmingham is the closest city that you'll find on this list. There is so much history in this city. The top listed place to visit in the city is the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, rightfully so. This museum houses so much information that was crucial to the Civil Rights Movement, as well as housing a research center. Other places to visit; Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Birmingham Zoo, Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and a Birmingham Barons baseball game!
9. Chattanooga, Tennessee (2 hours, 19 minutes)
Here's a city that US 27 goes directly into! The amount of things to do here is endless; Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Chattanooga Lookouts. These just scratch the surface. This city is well worth a one day trip from Carrollton, if you're looking to pass on hotel costs.
These are all places that I've personally visited. Where will you, your family, or your friends going this summer? Let me know below!
