Nightmare Before Christmas is by far my favorite Disney movie of all time! Yes I love my Disney Princess from Belle to Ariel, however, Sally and Jack's love stories trumps all of them! Anyone who talks to me would never think that this 'dark' movie that is so scary and it does not fit my bubbly, sweet personality. This got me thinking about something: what does it mean to have the personality to fit the movies we watch? In my opinion, this movie is completely misunderstood and since the movie is in the dark I should point out some positives in this movie so you can see why I love the many adventures of Jack Skellington! (So maybe it was one time but I see it so many times so I just say many!)
Everyone in Halloween Town is happy!
Halloween is always associated with costumers, laughter, and SCREAMS! Now in this movie these people are not wearing customers, they open the beginning of this story signing about the two things they love: their beloved town and the Pumpkin King! How are these people scary at all!?! These monsters are the same monsters we have been hearing about for years, turned into a movie, and it's a comedic movie at that! This movie already starts and ends on a happy note that people should be able to take away from this movie and that is: you may feel lost in this world, you may go find it, and if you don't, you have learned something new about yourself.
The opportunity Jack was looking "fell" right in front of him!
Most of the time when someone feels lost, they either go looking for something or an opportunity falls right into their laps. Now for Jack he had to fall into a swirling vortex that sucked him into Christmas town! Of course he took this as a sign of "hell yeah let's do this!" after being completely confused for an entire since he has never been there and could not understand why things were different..hence the song that he sings for a good minute and a half.
Even though his task was crazy, everyone was willing to make his dream come true!
Yes we can all agree that Jack trying to take over Christmas his friends and family (I consider them family since they hang out ALL THE TIME) were willing to drop everything and try it! At the town meeting, they listened to their leader with as much excitement as he had just to understand what he was talking about! I mean let's be honest: they probably had no idea what he was talking about and assume it was no big deal. It takes a community to come together to see your dreams come true!
Even though Jack does not have a great Christmas, he found his love again!
Sometimes people fall to get right back up again. Yes Jack had to be shot down because his Christmas was too much for the boys and girl of the town..it gave him new ideas for what to do for next Halloween. Should he have just sat in his room and never done this in the first place? Sure right not, but let's think about this! Don't we all get tired of the same routine, we want to change things up, they may not go as planned, and in the end we found out something we never thought about before? This is the same thing! Sometimes we have to step away from what we love, see that we can still love something old, and add something new to it to spice it up
Even though it took him a little bit of time, he realized his lover was right there in front of him.
Alright now let's be honest here-SHE WAS STANDING THERE THE WHOLE TIME! Isn't that what we say about most lovers/crushes in our lives. We are too blinded by something else to see that they are right there in front of our faces. Sally was there just helping him out, trying to tell him his plan would not work, and in the end still tried to help him fix his own mess. Yes, she tried to ruin his Christmas to save him, but she still did as he asked because she knew it would make him happy.
So is this movie really scary? IT'S REALLY NOT! Does it seem creepy at first? I mean it can be, but if you look past that this movie is really adorable! This movie is my favorite because it shows me that love is always around trying to help you out of trouble, its okay to want change in your life, and HAVE FUN! I feel like Halloween Town is this huge party that everyone should be able to enjoy!
