With the start of the new year, you might be tempted to make New Year's resolutions. Let's face it, most of us didn't keep the resolutions we made last year, or the ones from the years before. Does anyone really keep their New Year's resolutions?
Here are a few you might actually keep...
Trust your instincts- In some ways, this might be the easiest resolution to follow. That is because it doesn't require you to change, so much as go back to doing what you were naturally inclined to do, before you start doubting your feelings and over-thinking things.
Treat yourself- We are all moving too fast through life. Make an effort to be more in the moment this year and not just go through the motions.
Stop comparing yourself to others- We are all bombarded with messages of how we just don't measure up to this celebrity or this amazing blogger. Just remember, no one is perfect. Stop judging yourself.
Accept yourself as you are- Learn to be okay with yourself. You are pretty awesome, and it's up to you to think you are! Take time to recognize and appreciate the unique qualities that make you "you."
Listen more, talk less- Social media, "selfies", and reality TV seem to be about a lot of people talking about themselves and all talking past each other. Take a chill pill, stop talking so much, and listen to others more.
Learn to take risks- In order to get the reward you want, you're going to have to take a risk. Learning to take risks doesn't mean being foolhardy or reckless, either. Instead, you can pick and choose which risks are worth accepting to achieve your goals in life.
Try a new adventure- Going on vacation is fun, and more than 40 percent of Americans fly on leisure trips each year. A lot of those trips are to see family and friends, or go to theme parks and resorts. Those can be memorable and enjoyable experiences. Instead of going on the Space Mountain ride at Disney or gambling in Las Vegas, why not go somewhere different this year?
Use your talents for a good cause..Volunteering- Whether it's in a local soup kitchen, or tutoring kids in an after-school program or cleaning cages at the local animal shelter...sure sounds like something that is good for the community and yourself.
Don't get caught in the trap of making resolutions you'll never keep. Instead, choose simple resolutions that you might actually keep. Sometimes it's not only the thought that counts, but the possibility of success as well. Get down to business with these New Year's resolutions that you can succeed at!
