Reinventing Your New Year's Resolutions

Every year around the holidays, everyone wants to reinvent themselves. After New Year's, we all promise ourselves that we are going to do better. Whether that means going to the gym every day, eating healthier, or going on some crazy fad diet, it happens to all of us. But, how many of us actually end up going through with it, or stick with it for more than a few weeks?

I've heard all of my athlete friends repeatedly complain about how many more people show up at the gym after New Year's and make the place too crowded. Then, by the end of February, it's back to just the normal people who actually do work out regularly. It makes me laugh, because I know exactly what is going on. It was these people's New Year's resolution. A majority of people give up by the end of the first couple of weeks, and the gym is back to the regular, loyal people who consistently workout for one reason or another.

We need to rethink New Year's resolutions. You don't have to become absurdly skinny in 2019. You don't have to eat all of that green gunk that you hate so much in 2019. And you certainly don't need to make false promises to yourself in 2019. You can make smaller changes in your life, ones that are easier to accomplish day by day, and that might have more of a positive impact on you than eating a salad for every meal.

For example, my New Year's resolution is to try to be a better person overall. This might end up including changing my eating habits, but not for the reasons that you might think. I want to start to be nicer to everyone, including my friends, family, and even strangers. I want people to see me as a positive influence and as a positive person overall. I want my little brothers to look up to the way I live my life, I want to be more supportive to all of my friends, and I want to make myself more pleasant to be around.

The point is, if you're looking to make a New Year's resolution that counts for not only you but the people around you, take a step back and make small changes to your lifestyle. A little change goes a long way, and you never know who you might inspire to be a better version of themselves as well.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
