How many things can you transform a Pringle can into?
You can make into a rocket ship, a Kaleidoscope, an IPhone charging station, a vase, a bird feeder, a bank and many more things. How about a prayer can?
After using the cans in my classroom and turning them into rocketships, I found no use for the two leftover ones.
In the midst of a busy morning during camp we went outside to enjoy the playground. After twenty minutes of playing they were tired and needed to eat lunch. As we entered the school, I was talking to my campers about what we were going to do when we entered the classroom. “First, we will sit down and wash our hands. Then we will go to the table and wait to pray…”I was interrupted by a small voice in the back of the line. “Can we pray for my mom?” she asked. Then another student shouted, “oh yeah, my mommy and daddy also.” The voices throughout the hallway began to get louder as more request were being made. In response to all the campers I suggested we make a prayer box. “Why a prayer box when you can use your Pringle can?”
I hesitated in reply because the campers gave me the opportunity to think about why we pray or have prayer boxes or cans. It’s so simple to keep with a tradition or what the rest of the majority of the people do.
Try something new today.
Here are three steps of how you can make a “Prayer Can”
- Get a Pringles can and clean it out so there are no crumbs left in the container.
- Decorate. You can put construction paper around it or use newspapers. Just make sure somewhere on the can, you write, Prayer Requests.
- Cut a hole in the top of the lid so you can slide your pieces of paper into it.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.”
Never stop praying.
It’s so simple to say always pray, but a little reminder was always with our classroom to be intentional when we spent time with God in the morning, at snack time and lunch time. We have prayed for mommies and daddies three days in a row—you can never pray too much.
In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such these.”
The little children (campers) have ideas and ways to draw closer to God just as we do as adults. Because of the voices in line as we were coming in, we now have a Pringle can waiting for our daily requests to be written, offered to our Heavenly Father and praise Him for what He continues to do.
Now you can add a Prayer Can to your list of things you can make!
