Gang Starr began it's reign as an East Coast hip-hop group with MC Keithy E, DJ 1, and 2 B-Down in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. Let me be clear...YES, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EAST COAST HIP HOP AND HIP HOP FROM ANYWHERE ELSE!! In 1989, the group separated. However, MC Keithy E wanted the music to continue so he changed his name to Guru and met with DJ Premier, an artist from Houston, TX. Together the duo pushed Gang Starr to new heights and influenced multiple generations of hip-hop listeners.

Check these guys out for that old-school hip hop flavor!
