Your freshman year roommate is either the best decision you've ever made or the worst. You are either best friends, colleagues, or the person you nod at when you enter a room but then remain silent. If you've seen 'New Girl', then you know the highs and lows of having a roommate, or even MULTIPLE roommates. Here are 10 ways that 'New Girl' perfectly represents you and your college roommate.
1. When you meet your roomie for the first time on the first day of school
Certainly, when I first got to school and met my roommate, there was a moment that crossed my mind where I thought that this could just go all wrong.
2. When your roommate comes back knowing she aced a test
There's nothing better than coming home after a great day, where you know you got an amazing grade, and bragging about it to your roommate.
3. When it's Tuesday and you promised yourself you'd stay in and study, but roomie says she's going out
It always seems to be the case that a calm night in is interrupted by your roommate's plans, and a case of FOMO settles in.
4. When you want to leave a party early but your roommate wants to stay
You aren't actually going to leave. The thought of your clean sheets back at your dorm room has nothing over staying out with friends. And, of course, nobody wants to walk back alone.
5. When you ask your roomie why she has to tell you EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL. of her night out
Those long-winded conversations at 2 AM when your roomie comes back and has a crazy story to tell. Usually it isn't as crazy as expected, and you lose an hour of much-valued sleep.
6. When you guys trash talk the girl who was mean in lecture
You must hate everyone that your roomie hates. It's an unspoken rule. Coming home and finding out that someone was rude to your roommate automatically puts them on a hit list.
7. When roomie tells you she's going away for the weekend
There's nothing worse than getting used to saying goodnight to your roomie every night, having those late night chats, and then suddenly having her not be there. It sucks, and the room feels too quiet. Something you never think you would say.
8. Realistically, what a typical Saturday night looks like
In reality, college life is not about partying all the time. On a good day, a Saturday night consists of you and your roommate doing work, laundry or painting each other's nails.
9. When you spill something on your roomie's shirt and she's pissed.
There's always the dreaded conversation.
10. The last day of classes, when you finally have to say goodbye
but, also...
Just like 'New Girl' clearly shows on its hilarious sitcom, living with a roommate is both a blessing and a curse. It's definitely a different experience, but one that I wouldn't trade for the world. Having a roommate drive you crazy but yet also be the best part of coming home after a long day of classes is just how it works.
