While the Disney Company often appeals to younger audiences, it has also touched an enormous amount of hearts in older generations. If you happen to be a teen or adult, some people may think your huge love for Disney is a bit… weird. If you aren’t one to call yourself a Disney fan, you may be wondering what exactly it is you’re missing out on. The truth is that Disney isn’t only for entertaining little kids. Disney has a little something for everyone. For me, there are just some things about my Disney obsession that will never change.
My movie night suggestion will always be a Disney film. My phone will always be fully loaded with Disney soundtracks ready to blast in my room, in the car, and even in the shower. My cupboard will always be cluttered with Disney coffee mugs. Most importantly, my heart will always be filled with Disney magic.
But why so much Disney? Well, maybe it’s because when I’m feeling down, there’s no doubt that a Disney tune or movie will help cheer me up. Maybe it’s because anything Disney related immediately brings me back to being a little kid again—to being so full of wonder and imagination. How it felt to not care what anyone else thought of me and just enjoying all of life’s little pleasures.
Maybe it’s because visits to the Disney parks allow me to open my imagination and just let everything go. I will never forget that first time I walked down Main Street U.S.A. I will never forget the deliciously sweet smells of cotton candy and cupcakes coming from the Confectionary. Or how the morning sun glistened on the highest towers of Cinderella’s castle, making it the focal point of the entire kingdom. Or how everywhere I looked, there was a cast member there to greet me with a warm smile.
Maybe my obsession has formed because of the deep connection I feel with the Disney stories and characters—you can’t help but fall in love with them. The Disney films have shown me how important it is to love and to be accepting. They’ve shown me the power of family and how to be brave.
Maybe it’s because no matter how many times I’ve seen the movies, I will still cry when Simba returns to Pride Rock, when Mulan saves China, when Sulley says goodbye to Boo, and when Aladdin sets Genie free. These stories allow me to feel happy, angry, sad, and everything in between.
With Disney I ultimately find happiness and comfort—and that’s something I don’t ever want to lose. Disney truly captures my heart and allows me to get swept away into a world of fantasy. Disney is where our most treasured memories are made. Disney is where the magic lives and dreams come true. Disney is a place we can call home.
