There isn't much that compares to the sense of wonder and fulfillment of exploration. When your inner child sneaks out and runs through the woods laughing and screaming as you stroll along an unknown path. There is a freedom in exploration. It is the beginning ingredient for a decadent adventure. The unknown creates a slight suspense as you search for anything and everything. Your senses tingle on high alert, prepared for the giant ogres pushing through trees and fairies dancing among leaves... or, you know, whatever your inner child's imagination prepares for.
Exploring is something I believe to be embedded in our DNA, and from the existence of humans that is exactly what we have done. Explored. It started with the land; our ancient ancestors roaming about and settling everywhere. Then after thousands of years the exploration of water. Then the exploration of the wastelands, space, and now the underwater ways that weave our planet together like an intricate root system of life.
We should not loose our sense of wonder for this amazing planet. We should always explore, but that does not mean it has to be going out to the woods somewhere. Although delightful, you can explore your own backyard or the street you live on. You can explore everywhere.
You can even explore inwards. You could explore your mind or your emotions.
You see, exploration is as simple as perspective. The way you look at something and the way you think about something determines your sense of wonder. It determines the level of drive you will have to explore whatever it is; to know more about it, to find peace and comfort within the journey of finding.
What is your willingness to learn? Ask yourself this.
Open up to new possibilities, new ideas, and new ways of thinking. Open up to the world around you. Within this act, and this way of thinking, you might just find that this world is something you know nothing about. You might discover more about yourself.
You might even discover that there is a beautiful patch of purple wildflowers less than a block down from your home. You drive by it every day. Shoot, you've even walked by them going to the neighbors, but your mind was never in the present. You never noticed their simplicity and beauty.
You never noticed how the breeze is the most sensual dance partner, swaying with the flowers, spinning, swirling, and changing directions while never missing a beat. If not for the mental shift, you may have never noticed how good just watching this endless and enchanting routine of moves and colors makes you feel. You may have never noticed the fact that you are smiling right now just thinking about it.
And... If you never explored, well, you would never get to experience.
