They've come into our lives numerous times before, partners and pairs who have hit movie screens and television sets across the nation. Kenan and Kel, Lavern and Shirley, Lucy and Ethel, Key and Peele, just to name a few. You can't quite have one without the other. You almost don't want the series to continue unless these two remain in each other's company. It's almost like a mournful feeling takes over when this beloved duo that you've grown so accustomed to seeing tackle many situations as a team, split up for unforeseen and heartbreaking reasons.
Since the start of the show's premiere back in 1999, Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of "Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit" have been a fan favorite tag team since the get-go. As cliché as it sounds, this pair's on screen chemistry was and remained to be so strong throughout the pair's 12 year run together. They were just so compatible with one another, balancing each other out through every issue in their hectic work schedule. Elliot was tough and forthright and very opinionated. He was a man that would go through the ends of the earth to help someone in times of need. Olivia is more patient and and level headed, choosing to talk through a suspect's interrogation, rather than slamming their head into a wall. However, Olivia Benson is still not a female police officer you want to mess with.
Let's be honest the looks of the individuals within a duo only helps their cause. Both Elliot and Olivia are pretty attractive and respectable in their own rights. Elliot's very tall and thin with a rustic physique, and Olivia's luscious brown hair and excellent choice in make up products would make an outsider believe her profession is far different from that of a police officer.
The two almost fondled the idea of a romantic relationship, of course putting viewers and fans on the edge of their seats. I don't know what soul out there would not have wanted something to bloom between these partners. What could be better than your favorite partners sharing an even stronger relationship together when now they can always be involved in each other's lives? Unfortunately the two never actually did pursue things. Elliot was married and had a family and the two just didn't want to mix work and pleasure (boo).
All in all, Olivia and Elliot did a great job of giving off the vibe that they were unstoppable. That literally nothing would stop these two from saving the day in the end and putting the bad guy away. Being a New York native myself, I can say that my faith in the law enforcement throughout the city is actually pretty high because of these two. Yes, I know these are fictional characters and Mariska Hargitay might not even actually know her second amendment rights, but I can't help feeling this way.
The most dynamic duo in television history came to a shocking end when Elliot Stabler abruptly left the show, insisting the work just took too much of a toll on him and it was taking him away from his family. Well, once Elliot Stabler walked out of those doors of the precinct one last time, he must of taken my entire being with him. I was a mess. I couldn't stand to think how this show could go on without the two of them together as the lead.
I guess the moral of the story here is to never become quite too attached to something in fear you may lose it because this is something I'm still not over, five years later.
