The Never-Ending Craving

Cravings — the all-too-familiar and frequent desire for food, a person, a feeling...thankfully, these cravings eventually become satisfied (at least until they return again). However, there is one craving that I can never seem to satisfy…one that I can never get rid of…one that is never-ending… and that is my craving for knowledge.

As cliché as it sounds, it is so real. No matter how much I learn or read or listen, I never feel satisfied. Though at times it feels like I have so much I’m storing within my brain, I know that in truth it is only a drop of water in an endless ocean, and this is why I will never stop craving. Let me be honest when I say that knowing that there is so much in this world drives me absolutely crazy and that just the impossible thought of knowing everything makes my head hurt tremendously. Even just simply knowing I currently have so much work to study for slightly breaks my heart. However, knowing everything isn’t what obtaining or craving knowledge is about.

The pursuit of knowledge brings motivation, passion, understanding and character. It drives us, teaches us and helps us become an individual with a more open mind, soul and heart.

When I finish reading a book or sit in a lecture or talk with a friend or even watch those snippets of videos running down my Facebook feed, I can only wish that I possessed the ability to know and obtain more. How can we not be fascinated by the world and all it has to offer? How can we not crave such knowledge that makes life what it is? It motivates me to adventure into this world, to experience every culture, to learn every language, to meet every person, to question, to seek and to help others as much I can while still knowing that no matter how much I learn or say or do, there is still so much more out there waiting to be discovered, experienced and obtained.

Knowledge is our ultimate weapon. It opens so many doors and allows us to adventure into a vast world filled with various opinions, cultures, mysteries and characters. Therefore, when we choose to ignore something so important, we’re choosing to close a door that has the potential to open all.

Though it is more than true that we will never obtain all the knowledge within this universe, it should never be a reason for us to stop at where we are in life or to be satisfied with the current knowledge we possess. We don’t have to memorize all the almanacs of the world or listen to every lecture ever presented or always attempt to use every Dictionary.com's ‘word of the day’ in our vocabulary, but instead, we should all crave knowledge — to know more, to understand better, to imagine endlessly and to adventure curiously.

This never-ending craving is one that only requires the motivation to become more than who you are right now. This craving is one that will push you endlessly beyond the borders you thought surrounded you. This craving is one that will open opportunities to you that you never knew existed and deliver you an adventure for life. Though this craving will never be satisfied, it is worth it.

This is the never-ending craving. This is knowledge.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
