This past week, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel along with others graced our screens again in the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. So before this continues I'm gonna let somethings out in the open: I'm Team Jess and this is a somewhat of a rant. OK, it's good to let that out.
Lorelai and Emily's storyline was wonderful. My new favorite word is bullshit. She also answered the running gag: Can Emily keep a maid? Yes, as long as she can't understand what they are saying. And Lorelai was Lorelai, it's like she never left. Her proposal to Luke after his rant about never leaving practically redefined OTP.
Just as one ship is stronger than ever. another was sunk like the Titanic. They broke up Paris and Doyle! The words are synonymous! You can not have Paris without Doyle and Doyle without Paris. It's simply not done. However Paris revealed that she misses the "volcanic sex" with Doyle, and if Paris Geller wants to get back with Doyle then Paris Geller will. Who knows, they might've reconciled off-screen and we'll find out in the revival of this revival in 10 years. We just have to be patient.
Rory's love life is probably the storyline that was the most frustrating to viewers. I found Rory's scene between her and Dean beautiful in a sense. It brought closure to their relationship while showing that even though they made a terrible mistake that they had grown up and valued their relationship. Rory was extremely mature in this scene yet when it came to Logan, her ex who is engaged whom she is having an affair with, she simply rewrote history. It was equally wrong of Logan to string Rory along knowing that in the end he was never going to leave Odette for her. He spent the night with Rory and then he went to go get married. Whoever is still Team Logan after this I truly do not understand you. Oh and I forgot to mention Paul, Rory's boyfriend of two years who she is cheating on with Logan. Isn't she a real catch, ladies and gentleman?
But there is more. In the end, she gets pregnant with most likely Logan's child. I mean if she always forgetting Paul there's a zero percent chance that he is the father. If you look at this analytically you'll realize that this story has come full circle. Rory is shadowing Lorelai, and Logan is her Christopher. Both Bledel and Amy Sherman-Palladino have confirmed this about Logan's character. Dean is most likely Max, Lorelai's first boyfriend who know one really cares for.So who is Rory's Luke? None other than his own nephew, Jess Mariano. The former bad-boy who is always in the background loving and pushing Rory in the right direction. He claims that he is "long" over Rory but Team Jess fans all know that's a lie when he longingly stares at Rory through her window. Classic Luke.
So this probably means that in 10 or so years Rory will finally realize that Jess is the love of her life. Right? Well, that is a big "if". And since it is not written in stone, Team Jess fans will forever be grieving for what could have been.
The revival was meant to bring closure to the abrupt ending of Gilmore Girls, but it still has not answered the decade-long question: Who will Rory end up with? I wish I had an answer but all I can say is, "Damn you cliffhangers!!!"
