We Need More Love

It's the only way to move forward.

We Need More Love

The world is a scary place. There is constant negativity surrounding some part of it. There is inequality, violence, oppression, intolerance, hostility, hatred, betrayal, malice, and so many more things sending our world in the wrong direction. There is one force more powerful than all of these, however: love. Love is all we need to guide the misdirection of our world back to where it should be. Love is the force that can bring people together from all walks of life for a common good. Love is the way to conquer evil, and we need more of it.

If we just took a minute to look into each other’s hearts and minds, we would see how similar we all are. We would see the beauty there is in every human on this planet. We would see that there is no reason and no place for oppression, bigotry, violence, or malice in this world. We would see that there is no reason to hate. We would see only reasons to love and value one another. Love is a powerful thing, and we need to use it whenever we begin to lose ourselves in waves of negativity toward other humans.

If we just took a minute to see the black/Latino/Muslim/gay/trans/immigrant man on the side of the road as just a man, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of skin color, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of gender, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of who we love, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of gender identity, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of income, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to see that we all deserve the same respect regardless of religion, the world would be a happier place. If we just took a minute to understand that the one thing we all have in common is humanity, we would open up our hearts to more love.

This world is lost. We are moving backward, not forward. The way to get back on the right path is through love. This is up to us - all of us individually and all of us together. We must stand united against the hatred, discrimination, violence, malice, and bigotry, which penetrate our world. We must act individually and together to change the course of our fate. We must be strong, and we must stand tall. Love is the only way to conquer evil, and we must spread as much of it as we can.

There is no place for racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, sexism, or any other form of discrimination that places “other” at the forefront of oppression and violence. There is no place for any of these heinous mindsets in our world, and love is the way to eradicate them. We must choose to understand each other and to change our perspective to view the world from another’s eyes. Love is the way to change the world, and we need more of it right away.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
