The NBA All-80's Team

The best lineup made of NBA players from the 1980s

The NBA All-80's Team

The breakout decade for NBA basketball. Move over tape delay. Hello prime time.

Point Guard: Magic Johnson

LeBron before LeBron. Ben Simmons before Ben Simmons. Magic was the original oversized point guard. At 6'8, Magic was able to see over shorter defenders, yet still able to blow past big men. Magic was selected as an all-star in every season of the 80's with the exception of an injury riddled 1980-81 season. Teaming up with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson won five championships in the 80's. He was voted league MVP three times and even led the league in assists per game four times.

Shooting Guard: George Gervin

The Iceman benefits greatly from my one all-decade team per player rule, as Michael Jordan would take over this spot if Jordan hadn't won so many titles in the 90's. Gervin should not be over shadowed however. He only played seven seasons in the 80's, but was voted as an all-star in six of those seven. He led the NBA in scoring in 1980 and 1982. Most importantly, he ushered the Spurs into the NBA and helped them become the franchise they are today.

Small Forward: Dominique Wilkins

The Human Highlight Film was one of the most electrifying players in NBA history. Wilkins led a weak Hawks teams to moderate success. He led the NBA in scoring in 1986 and was selected as an all-star every season from the '85-'86 season to the '89-'90 season. If it weren't for Dominique, we may be calling Joe Johnson, Bob Pettit, or Al Horford the greatest Hawk of all time. Those guys were great, but dull compared to Wilkins.

Power Forward: Larry Bird

I know Larry Legend was probably a better small forward than power forward but the man was 6'9. He practically invented the stretch four. Bird was a three-time champion, all in the 80's. He was selected to the all-star game every year except the 1988-89 season in which he played six games. He didn't average below 20 points per game in any season in the 80's other than the six game season. He even averaged a double-double with points and rebounds from the 1979-1980 season to the 1984-1985 season.

Center: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The NBA's all-time leading scorer is often considered one of the best players of the 70's and he was, but he and Magic Johnson teamed up to win five championships in the 80's. Kareem was voted an all-star in all 10 seasons he played in the 1980s. He earned himself a league MVP honor in 1980. He even proved a player listed at 7'2 could play well into his 40's.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
