Dear Girls,
I am one of you. I get up in the morning. Shower, brush my teeth, do my hair, and do the dreadful thing- putting on makeup. I am not going to lie, I love to wear it. It makes me feel complete, and no, I don’t cake it on. But I make sure I cover up the pimple I got from stressing out about exams, or put the mascara on so my eyes are emphasized throughout my day. But why? Why does makeup have to be part of my everyday routine?
As girls, we should be able to embrace our natural beauty and feel confident about it.
“Confidence is the ability to feel beautiful, without needing someone to tell you.” – Mandy Hale
It’s no secret- girls are expected to wear makeup and dress to the 9’s 24/7. The idea of natural beauty has truly faded in today’s society. How is this fair? Guys can walk around with their hair from three days ago and a ragged t-shirt, and they still get more attention than a girl all done up for a night out.
The effort we put into our daily routine to seek some form of attention is ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong- I love when I am complimented on my outfit or told, “You look pretty today.” I mean, it is very nice to say those things about a person and be the receiver of the compliment, but my point is, you should feel beautiful every day. It shouldn’t be because you are wearing a low-cut shirt or have extra eyeliner on.
Guys don’t even put in half the effort we do so why do we try so hard?
For my class project, I am starting this social media campaign -- #LookWhatsOnTheInside. We were asked to go against our gender roles, and I personally feel that makeup is something that now defines a woman. And it really shouldn’t. The hashtag is to promote inner beauty rather than outer beauty.
My challenge to you is as followed:
Post a selfie on any of your social media accounts or all of them. Lol, right? #selfie, we are all good at that.
Take the selfie with no makeup on and see what response you get. It is no lie, people can be cruel. But it is time we take a stand.
Make sure you hashtag- #LookWhatsOnTheInside. It is time we banned together and show that natural beauty is still respected.
I know the best part of my day is when I take a Baby Wipe to my face and take all that gunk off. I feel so refreshed so why should I not feel that good all day? The better question is, why shouldn’t you?
Share this article & participate- it will be worth it. I promise.
