When I’m bored or have free time there are a few shows I watch that I can not get enough of.
Warning might be a few spoilers.
Supernatural (2005):
Started watching this supernatural drama series since 2015 and had a lot of catching up to do since CW is airing their twelfth season, but thanks to Netflix I was able to catch up. The main stars are two brothers Dean and Sam who take after their father’s steps to fight and kill supernatural beings that are causing havoc in the human world. Each episode is full of puns and inside jokes between the brothers and their partners in crime like Castiel and angel, Crowley the king of hell, Bobby a fellow hunter and many others. I find this series to be more of a comedy at times than a drama, but the mix of personal episodes and dramatic scenes have kept this show running for many seasons.
Hap and Leonard: Mucho Mojo (2016):
I recently started watching this well made Sundance show in February and it quickly became one of my must watch mystery shows. Mucho Mojo takes place in the eighties in a small slightly racist Texas town staring two best friends Hap and Leonard who are two very different personalities. Together they uncover what they thought was a treasure but turned out to be a dead body with a dark past. The second season is even better than season one. In Season two Hap and Leonard struggle to prove their innocence of being child murders while wondering upon a local African American church murder.
The Middle (2009):
I have been watching this sitcom on ABC for eight seasons and it remains to be a great family time show. The Heck’s are a unique middle class family of five. Mike and Frankie Heck are the parents who work hard to provide for their three kids, Axl the oldest, Sue and Brick the youngest. Their family issues are the ones most families have and there are life lessons in each episode that make you grateful for all your loved ones. In terms of humor I would say there is a tie between The Middle and Life and Pieces. The Middle has a longer running period and a little less dark humor.
The Big Bang Theory (2007):
This series is on its tenth season on CBS and is on the top of the charts for best comedy sitcoms with a large fan base. I will admit I own a Sheldon bobble head, a “Bazinga” shirt, and a “Soft Kitty” tank top. Big Bang Theory started with four scientists Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj who become best friends and coworkers at a local University. In recent seasons the main characters have grown as friends and even have significant others.
Chrisley Knows Best (2014):
A reality series based on one of Atlanta’s richest real estate families the Chrisley’s. There are seven family members the parents Todd and Julie and the kids Savannah, Chase, Grayson and Lindsay. I can’t forget the sassiest grandmother Nanny Fay. Todd is the metrosexual and humors, but controlling head of the household. Savannah, Grayson and Chase are always causing trouble giving Julie and Todd heart attacks. If you like reality television or watching funny southern families Chrisley Knows Best on USA is worth watching.
Bates Motel (2013):
This series isn’t for the faint of heart, its full of mentally unstable family members and lots of murders. Norman Bates and his mother Norma Bates decide to open a motel in a small town and that is where all the trouble begins for Norman, his family and the town’s people who happen to cross the Bates family. Norman has a many mental issues including a personality disorder making him kill anyone he had feelings for or anyone he thought would interfere with his unhealthy relationship with his mother. Based on a novel by Robert Bloch who wrote Psycho. FYI on Netlfix
Bob’s Burgers (2011):
This is the one animated show I look forward to every Sunday night at nine on Fox. Bob Belcher is a middle-aged man who owns a burger shop in California, where his wife Linda and kids, Tina, Gene, and Louise work by his side to keep their family business running. The kids all always up for adventures whether at school or in their dads’ restaurant/home. The characters are well developed and have formed a character fan base. Tina is my spirit animal with her love of horses and her struggles of going through the teen-age years.
Superstore (2015):
If you have ever worked in retail this is a show you can relate to all to well. Superstore makes retail look fun or at least comical. Cloud 9 and their team poke fun at daily associate tasks with lots of problems and odd events that need to be solved in every episode. I wish I could say I have a favorite character, but each one has a quirky personality. I will mention that there really is no main plot for the series, only made for laughs on NBC.
Life in Pieces (2015):
When I finished watching the pilot on CBS I instantly thought about my family and how we also throw sarcastic jokes back and forth at each other all the time. I also noticed that the twenty-minute episodes are divided into four comedic stories involving the grandkids, kids and grandparents. Each episode brings major humor and you will for sure laugh, if you do not something’s wrong with you.
Love (2017):
In short, this Netflix comedy original series gives me the feels with its realness on the struggles of dating and being an adult in today’s society. Mickey the main character finds herself looking for more than hookups and parties wanting a real relationship. This series can be helpful to those who are struggling with adulthood and or recovering from addictions. To be honest I have never been a fan of romance related movies or sitcoms, but this one takes the cake for me.
Schitt’s Creek (2016):
Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy created and star in this Canadian comedy series The Rose’s were a wealthy family who got caught for tax evasion. In result they loose everything they owned except for a suitcase of their clothes and a town called Schitt’s Creek Mr. Johnny Rose bought his son David as a joke. The family continues now in season two to get back to there rich lifestyles, but find peace in their new town. This show is very well scripted with limited amount of set locations, reminds a little bit of concluded sitcom “Everyone Loves Raymond”. FYI, on Netflix.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017):
A recent fast paced dark comedy series broadcasted on Netflix written by and staring Drew Barrymore. Drew Barrymore plays a Santa Clarita California mother with a husband and daughter selling houses and living a normal suburban lifestyle. Shelia (Drew) becomes a lifelike slowly dying Zombie struggling with her family to live a normal life, minus the killing and eating people part.
Crashing (2016):
A British witty comedy series where a group of young adults get free rent by working as property guardians for old run down hospitals or warehouses. Each character has their quirks, like the hound dog Sam who falls for one of his best mates, Fred and struggles to come out of the closet. Sam is only one of the many funny but complex guardians. FYI, playing on Netflix.
The OA (2016):
One of the most confusing but addicting SyFi Netflix Original series out. Once I started watching I wanted to know more about OA’s story. How she went from being blind, confused, abducted, and fighting for her life to wondering back to unsupportive household with perfect vision. AO teams up with local townies that are devoted to help solve her story. I cannot wait for season two!
