9 Of My Summer Goals

There don't have to be just New Year's resolutions. How about summer resolutions instead?

Every summer, I think of all the different ways I want to spend my summer and the various goals I want to achieve. Often times, I fall a little bit short, but why not write them out and give it a shot anyway?

Eat healthier

Concept of healthy food- fresh vegetables

I make this commitment to myself throughout the year every year. This summer seems like the prime time to actually make it happen, though. I will be living at home for the summer and commuting each day for my internship. I'm hoping with a very consistent schedule, I will find the time to meal prep and make more conscious decisions about what I eat.

Read more books

During the school year, the only time I find to curl up and read a good book is over winter break. I am hopeful that, with my evenings more open and a lack of homework, I can sit down and read the books I have had every intention of reading for the past few years.

Train for a mini-marathon

For some reason, I agreed to run a mini-marathon with my sister this coming November. My official training will begin part way through the summer, but I am hoping to get a little head start and begin training as soon as I head back home from school.

Spend time with family

Another goal I have is to really make a concerted effort to spend time with my family this summer. Like I said, I'll be living at home so that automatically gives me an advantage. What I really hope to do is make more time for family members that I don't see as often or on a daily basis.

Spend time with friends

I am so excited to spend more time with my friends that I don't see while I'm at Purdue. When I'm not working, training for my mini, or spending time with family, you will likely find me with some of my high school besties.

Get tan

Who knows if this will actually happen since I will be decently busy, but I am just the palest version of pale right now. My goal is to spend a little time by the pool on my days off and maybe get a little bit of a tan.

Wake up early...even on my days off

Morning Landscape Lake Dawn Clouds

Waking up early is my favorite. I am SUCH a morning person. After long days, though, it can be hard to get yourself out of bed and start your day. I hope to make the most of every day this summer and wake up early as often as possible.

Clean out my closet

If there is a shirt that I haven't worn in the past year, I'm donating it. I have such a bad habit of saying, "Oh but what if I need to wear that shirt one day?" No more. If it hasn't been worn, it's going to the donation pile.

Declutter in general

Overall, I've accumulated a lot of random stuff throughout college, and I am not going to cram it all into my bedroom when I get back home. A big goal of mine is to seriously declutter and only keep the things that I truly need.

Cross your fingers I'll be able to achieve most, if not all, of these goals this summer! Regardless, I am so looking forward to what this summer has in store.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
