My Spring Break Diary: Cabo San Lucas Edition

Last Week, I hopped on a flight back to San Diego from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where I spent my spring break! It was an amazing trip, but it was also one of the most interesting weekends of my life.

I had never truly been to Mexico, so this was my first time going, even though it is considered just a tourist area. It was not too difficult of an adjustment because all my friends that I went with, including myself, speak Spanish, and my friends have been to Mexico before. Cabo San Lucas is a great destination for spring break because there are many tourist attractions and there is a great spring break crowd, and not to mention, plenty of college students who are experiencing the same trip.

Cabo is known for its attractions and nightlife and is a great bargain for college students wanting to go to a party destination, especially for me because San Diego is so close. There are many options for activities in Cabo including, snorkeling, paragliding, swimming with dolphins, scuba diving, and many others. We chose to go snorkeling as it was something we were able to plan last minute. The activity came with lunch on the boat, snorkeling, and an open bar, all for a bargain. It was an intense experience because I am terrified of the ocean, but I am so glad I did it. It was so liberating, and I knew I might not be able to get that chance again with my friends.

Nightlife in Cabo is also amazing, as there are many options all in close proximity to each other. The main clubs and bars are all on the same street, and it is very crowded so it is fairly safe, but being aware of pickpockets is always good. If you research the clubs beforehand, there are usually great deals, but mostly for girls. Unfortunately, we did not find very many deals, only one night girls got into one club for free, other than that we did not find any others. We found ways to save money though and how not spend too much money or any all.

Cabo spring break was one of the most insane experiences of my life, as it was somewhat sketchy, yet exciting. I was in a new country creating new memories and trying new things. We stayed out all night and did new things each day of the trip. I also got stung by a jellyfish, which was kind of not cool, but it happens. I also met so many great people that I know I will stay connected with.

I do not regret anything on this trip and still cannot believe that I was in Mexico just this morning. Spring break is for letting loose and forgetting about all the cares of school. Obviously, it is a time for partying, but it is always a good idea to be aware and use common sense. Staying safe and watching your alcohol intake should be a common practice during spring break, especially when you are in a different country that you have never been to. Cabo definitely had its ups and downs, but it was an awesome experience and I am so glad I was able to have this opportunity.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
