To My Roommate, In Our First College Apartment
Kelsey Dietrich

Hello there, my sweet apartment roommate! I wanted to take some time to articulate just how excited I am to be living with you this school year. Here we are, finally all settled into our first apartment; this is so crazy as we take another step into adulthood. I am writing this today to tell you a few important things that I want you to always remember.

First, know that I will always be around to support you, no matter what. I want nothing short of what is the best for you throughout the entire school year (and beyond!) so I am ready to offer any advice, fresh perspectives, or listening ears whenever you may need them. If something is bothering you, know that you can always open up to me about whatever it may be.

Furthermore, I am free of judgment. I want you to feel comfortable doing whatever makes you content, even if those things are not similar to the choices that I would make. Our differences are what make each of us unique. I can only hope that you feel like you can embrace whatever kind of life you want; after all, we should feel comfortable in our own living space.

Next, I am anxious for all of the learning that we will experience together. Paying bills on time, cooking dinner, meal prepping, balancing more and more responsibilities, staying true to personal value preferences, fortifying different types of relationships, and prioritizing time are all aspects of life that we have been exposed to before but truly are learning how to incorporate this year. I am so thankful that we have each other for guidance as we deal with all of these important things.

Most importantly, I will always keep the apartment clean. Maintaining an organized space is crucial to living comfortably. Plus, people usually feel better when everything is in place in a clean environment. You will never have to worry about the accumulation of filth taking over our apartment; I can ensure you that I will never let that happen!

Finally, I have enjoyed sharing this space with you thus far, and I am looking forward to the rest of the school year with feelings of excitement and positivity. I hope that you are feeling the same way. There is no other person that I would rather experience living in my first apartment with!

Here's to a great year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
