I am so incredibly guilty of an always messy room. At home and at school. I wish I wasn't. Honestly, the mess probably stresses me out more than I already am, but it just happens, you know? I clean my room today and in two days, it's back to crap. Partly because I'm lazy and partly because I'm busy. I also feel like I have too much stuff for it to ever look clean. Isn't that dumb? Well, here's a list of things I do that contribute to my messy room and maybe you can relate, too.
1. Never put my clothes where they belong.
Especially in the morning, wow, I'm bad. I'll take clothes out of my closet to try them on or just match them with something...and then I throw them on my bed. Later on when I get back from classes is when I put them back because I'm ready for a nap, of course.
2. I don't make my bed.
I was never forced to as a kid (thanks, Mom) and I never got into the habit of it! Even if I try! I'm gonna just plop myself into it again anyway and mess it all up, so I usually don't care enough. True, it makes my room look a lot less messy, but I'm usually the only one looking at it...and I'm not judging myself.
3. I have a chair.
So this goes back to the clothes thing. Sometimes, I'll pile the clothes from my bed on my chair and then back to the bed if I need the chair. Yes, eventually the clothes go where they should, but I'm in the middle of something! Like watching watching Netflix or eating.
4. I may or may not be a bit of a hoarder.
I keep everything. Tickets from awesome concerts, a cool rock I find on a hike, and even old birthday presents that kinda suck. I'm a sentimental person, I guess, but it isn't good when when my little Memories box needs to be more like a memory trunk.
5. Too many textbooks.
Okay, there is definitely a solution to this one, but I haven't gotten around to it, yet. When I switch out my school books every day, I kinda just throw them on the floor next to my bed if I'm in a hurry, and that's always. I know, I'm planning on getting a crate or something to organize it, because I'm getting a little sick of the pile of notebooks sitting there.
6. Too many shoes.
You can't tell me this is never an issue! First of all, where is there ever any room for all the shoes?! They're kinda squished in my closet out of sight, so that's good. But then I come home and I just like to kick off my shoes and chill, ya know? So obviously, that eventually piles up because I have the same problem with the shoes as I do with the clothes...except it's not as bad!
7. Too many books.
I'm just a nerd and I really don't have enough room at school for all my books, ever. It's already sad leaving more than half of them behind at home; now I can't display all of them proudly because this isn't my dream house and I don't have a bookshelf wall.
8. I may, weirdly, like it.
It's a mess, but it's my mess. I still pretty much know where everything is within all the clutter. I don't think my messy room reflects a "messy life," but I like to think it reflects my crowded mind, where I'm everywhere, but I'm still somehow flourishing in the mix of it all. It was actually Albert Einstein who said, “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, then what are we to think of an empty desk?” Yeah, and my desk is a whole other story. Anyway, fill your mind, embrace your mess and...and be an Einstein!
