Mother is typically defined as, "A woman in authority; specifically: the superior of a religious community of women." There is only one way I know how to define my mother, and that is as a Proverbs 31 mother.
Being a Godly woman is the most valuable lesson my mother has taught me. For as long as I can remember, we have prayed together. We prayed that I would grow up to be good and strong. We prayed there were no monsters underneath my bed. She put me in Sunday school and taught me the Bible is the most important book I would ever read.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at days to come." Proverbs 31: 25
This has been a prayer for my future and a constant lesson in my upbringing. Now, it is a daily affirmation that reminds me that I am a good, God-fearing woman. However, the more I studied the bible, and the more I became accustomed to God's word, I realized that that verse is the embodiment of my mother. She is always quietly in the corner. She is strong and supports everyone in the house when something goes wrong.
Not long ago, my father fell ill. My mother stayed by his bedside and never wavered. She was a pillar of strength for our family, but she never took time to focus on herself and what she needed. One night in the quiet ICU waiting room, I saw her break. She became the one who needed strength. Her moment was fleeting, but it reminded me that you do not always have to be strong. It is okay to have a breakdown because that is what God is there for. God is there to catch you when you fall. It was a terrible time for my family, but it reminded me to be the kind of woman my mother always taught me.
My mother is strong, wise, caring, and the embodiment of the kind of wife and mother I hope to be. I hope to one day be able to teach my daughter everything that my mother taught me. She is the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She rarely wavers, but when she does, she turns to faith. She is always strong. She knows her attributes and uses that to provide for her family. My mother is my hero, and I want to thank her for giving me a mother to look up to in a world of Kris Jenners.
